Gear Stick Stuck

Hi All,
Apologise & Please remove if this isn't allowed.... as it's a renault Scenic (not clio) problem, but i couldn't think of a better/more reliable place to ask.

Anyway, 2010 renault scenic 6 speed manual, the gear stick will not move left/right (side to side) it moves fine forwards and backwards?
Taking the gear gaiter off doesn't reveal anything obviously wrong, but it just seems like something is stuck/jammed?
It can move in the gear it's stuck in (3rd i think)
Any ideas/pointers on anything to check

Check the gear linkage underneath, you may have to pull the engine cover off.

That was my first thought,
but on removing the gear gaiter & seeing the end of the cable & the working of the stick It appears that the stick is stuck and doesn't look like it is even trying to move the gear linkage, you literally cannot move the stick side to side.
