Gearbox fooked

Just drove home from work, had some fun as iv only got 1 bucket seat in the car and its rapido.

Anyway got home, stank a bit funny, looked behind the car and a trail of oil, looked under the car, and the long metal bit to the right of the sump is hanging down and oil is pouring out!

Iv pushed it back up when shoving something to catch the oil with and the oil stopped coming out!

Is the box fooked, or something come loose? help!

sounds like the seal on the selector rod has gone, but it shouldnt b hanging down. It moves about 1/2" between neautral and all the upgate and lower gate, but it shouldnt dribble or pour oil.

Was it comming out the actual hole int eh casing the selector goes into?

Get a pic mate, the gear selector? is it gearbox oil?

yeah was thinking that, I ve lost the plastic gaurd off mine need to find another.

yeah, but he wouldnt be able 2 select gear if it was hangin down (as in disconnected), surely?!! u sure it wasnt just in neutral position and LOOKS as if its hangin??

well its the metal bit directly to the right of the sump, a good few inches wide, and sweeps up at the front! the front bit is fine, its towards the rear of the metal that its hanging down. it looked like black metal at that part, but i only had a torch so not 100% sure.

oil was litteraly pouring out, iv shoved an ice cream tub under, and in the process it pushed the bit hanging down back up and the oil stopped, when i moved it again it came back down again and oil started pouring out again!

The box has been poping out of 2nd, and crunching quite bad when going down the gears into 2nd recently! all the other gears are fine.

I only had the box rebuilt 18k miles ago!

the car seemed to drive fine, as i had to move it as mi dad went nuts about oil on the drive. Gears selected fine!

Thats why i said there is only about 1/2" movement
 


ok, you meant you moved the plastic drip tray, not black metal bit ;) didnt you! lol

And you said oil poured out when the selector rod (am assuming you were reffering to the rod on the right) was pulled down. Did it come off the tray, or actually OUT of the selector rod hole?

Or can you see where oil is dripping out of the casing split?

yeah it was dark and i just saw something hanging down! :oops:

it was the black plastic guard that was hanging down, and oil was pouring from that. i cant see any cracks but looks like the oil has come from in between the casing.

I definately didnt hit anything other than some usual speed humps at very slow speed earlier in the day!

from the picture the oil looks like its coming from the gearbox casing joint or a crack in a casing(cant see enough on the pic).the selector on the left of the top picture doesnt look particually wet from oil.
