Gearbox Gaitor replacement.

  Ph1 172.
My gearbox is leaking oil very slowly and I took the car in for a service today. They told me the n/s driveshaft gaitor is not forming a full seal and that's where it's leaking oil, I'm not sure if its the one closest to the gearbox or not.

My dad suggest we replace the gaiter ourselves, is this an easy job for somebody with little knowledge of what they are actually doing?

Or is it best left to somebody who does?

Cheers.

1, Remove the caliper from the disc,
2, undo the track rod end on the hub,
3, release the suspension bolts 2x18mm iirc(keep it there)
4, undo the pinch bolt underneath the hub,
5, undo the 3x 13mm bolts on the gaitor (the bolts hold the gaitor flush to the box)
6, remove step 3

Now the shaft will come out stuck with the hub on,

Now go towards the bearing 3 roller type, and you can see a metal collar type on top with 2 holes holding it on, remove that metal collar, and then remove the bearing,

Then remove old gaitor and fit new one and re do the steps backwards to get it back in and working :)

Or you could undo, rotate and re-seat the seal.

If you want a new inner seal for cheaper than Renault prices send me a PM. ;)
