hi all ive just got my wife a m reg clio 1.4 rt i was running it today on stands as its been sat and was beading the new breaks in its spat a load of gearbox oil out from the drivers side drive shaft all up the starting motor ect would it have done this as that side was spining backwards due to both wheels being off the ground had it around 100 mph mark cheers for any help

f*ck me what were you doing spinning it up to 100mph!!!!!!!!!!!!
with it jacked up the shafts are at quite an angle so best case scenario is its popped a shaft out worst case it could have damaged something internal

Most likely split inner gaitor on the n/s driveshaft fairly common.

is it a big job to change them?

Not really, depends how handy you are with a spanner.

Need to drain the box oil, loosen hub nut, take the wheel off, remove disc/caliper, unbolt strut, unbolt track rod end, take the hub nut off, unbolt the 3 bolts holding the driveshaft gaitor into the box then pull the shaft out.

Then you swap the gaitors over and re-assemble, take extra care with the 3 bolts into the box as they round off very easily.

That has got to be one of the most retarded ways to bed brakes in i've ever heard tbh. They've got no real load on them anyway if the wheels are off the deck.

Fred, that would be sensible!:clown:

it has no tax or mot otherwise i would have driven it
well theres no need to bed the brakes in then?
and even if you did feel the need to do it that way why 100 mph?
when you do drive it, you will be lucky if you havnt blown the diff to bits just noticed you said one of the wheels was spinning backwards.
diffs probably knackered

lol once when I had my valver on stands I redlined it in 5th

Pretty sure one of the wheels will spin on its own even when its in neutral, nothing to worry about.

  My bicycle!!
you have prob split the rubber on the drifeshaft where its at such a angle, and with one wheel spinning backwards, im guessing thats how the diff works, because if u have both front wheels off the floor, spin one wheel, the opisite side will spin the other way

fcuking is somehting to worry about - you are lucky you didnt end up with bits off diff in the cabin with you

I think the moral here is why and don't lol

Haha what happens if your redlining in 5th on stands and they slip HAHA unlucky chap!!

Why would the diff blow with both wheels off the ground?

And yeah wasn't a great idea on reflection but we live and learn eh

  My bicycle!!
cut him some slack, nd dont see how it would blow the diff apart, im sure its under more stress when its under load!

He was only tryin to bed in his brakes, he might have thought it would have worked, but we have all gotta learn from somewhere!

I believe it would be under more stress as its under a strange angle being off the ground

i meant the diff not the drive shaft
