i need to know what gearbox oil goes in a 182. figured one of you lot might know as the two!!! guys from renault couldnt tell me as the "technical" guy wasnt in and they were only "parts" men.

oh also were on the gearbox is the plug?? i think ive found it but not sure.

is it a black plug about the diameter of a 2pence,behind the radiator and under the air box?????

really need your help on this one guys

75 80W.
I've got the exact spec somewhere I'll have a look later.

The plug is at the bottom of the gearbox at the lowest point. It fits an 8mm square nut. The only othere one of that size is on the engine sump.

I'd be interested to know how easy it is to change , how much to refill etc ...

I think there a gap for the gearbox oil but take the guard off anyway its dead easy on a few bolts.

Only way to get it is underneither. To fill the box is a pain you have to make a tool consisting of a coke bottle like thing with a pipe off the bottom which then goes down the front of engine between the radiator and the engine and there refilling point is there facing forward. Renault dealers/garages usually have a suitable tool which makes it easier to fill.
3.1 liters of gearbox oil you need royal pupre or somehting liek that is supposidly the best buy very pricy. I use 75 90W Millers in my Williams and it's superb make the shift a lot smoother then again the old oil wasn't that clean it had 100k or so on it.

  172 cup'd extreme
its easier to take the rad off and fill it , you can buy pumps which will pump it in for about £20, edde is right the millers stuff is superb

ok just a quick note to let you guys know how i got on.

i put the cars on axle stands, doesnt look like a lot of space underneath but am a big guy and found the access was fine. just realised i took the wheel off too. gives you little bit extra

took off the plastic guard (4 bolts)

the bung is a black plastic cover, secured finger tight. just screws out. little bit fiddly.

i didnt see anything out there in halfods etc that was suitable for pouring the oil in with so i made one myself with some garden hose out of B&Q and two funnels. cut the end off one and attached it at the end of the hose so it fits in the gearbox.

simple.

i used the stuff supplied by renault. elf 70/ 80w

it takes 3.2 litres. be expecting to pay around 36 pounds.

hope this helps

Is there a sealing washer on the filling plug ? Did you replace the sealing washer or just the old one on the drain plug ?
