How often do you need to change it? i've only heard of this once

We tend to recommend this one from Fuchs http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-981-fuc...w-80-synthetic-manual-transmission-fluid.aspx

Does not need changing very often, my info says it should be checked every 20,000km or 24months.

They sell the proper Elf stuff on ebay, even with P&P it's cheaper than going to Renault direct.

Probably because the oil is designed to last, or they don't want to risk the oil change. The oil needs to be an exact match and needs to be filled more precisely to a specific level.

But then again, the car is probably only designed to get to 100k miles, so might be worth changing it when you reach that level.

Renault also made the shitest gearbox in the world ever aka the JC5 which is what you have
