Gearbox problem :/

Hi there , i have a 2001 clio dynamic which has 100k on clock , had a big problem tonight as i was going from first into second the car made a nasty sound then i couldnt get any gears at all ! Got the car over to the side of the road and now i can only get fifth gear. Ino that my clutch is completely done but this cant be the only problem can it ? I cant get the car to select any gear apart from fifth .

Ill have a look at linkages and cables tomorrow as its too dark to start stripping things but i just wondering if anyone eles has had a similar problem or knows a solution

Does the gearstick feel normal or sloppy?

Can you get all the gears with the engine off?

Does it 'drive' in 5th gear?

Does the clucth pedal feel normal?

Can only get 5th gear with the engine on or off

It will drive in fifth gear but not very well obs with my actual clutch plate being done

Clutch pedal is fine no noises

Sounds like gearbox fault then. If it was just clutch related then you'd get gears with engine off. Check the linkage first as ive seen a few ball joints pop out recently it pivots on the bottom of the box. but that usually gives a sloppy stiick (ooo, err)

If you need a gearbox specialist we recomend Agency Transmissions of Worcester. Superb service and knows Clio boxes blindfold. Done many, many CS members boxes with zero complaints (think he said it was over 50 boxes hed done for CS last time I spoke to him) and can do it via courier.

Ask for Martin and tell him I sent you, he will look after you and the MAX he has ever charged is under £300 for a full rebuild (about the cost of a 2nd hand box). Most of the time its less as he just charges for what needs doing.

Agency transmissions were fantastic with my gearbox.
Took it down to them on the monday morning, told it'd be ready wednesday morning, collected Tuesday afternoon.

i live in northern ireland so that specalist would be no good

when i got home there i put the car up and looked at the selector/linkage shaft and it all seems to be fine nothing looks like its popped off or anything. Disconnected the selector shaft and just worked the selector by hand and i couldnt get any gears apart from 5th so im just going to put a 2nd hand box in her out of the scrap yard :/ .


So can anyone tell me if you need to take the subframe out ?

and also is the wee tube sort of thing on the top for filling the box or is that just a breather ? If so how do you put the gear oil in ?

Im sorry f these are stupid questions but i know nothing about renaults lol

Deffo box fooked then......

That is a breatheryour taking about, the filler is on the front of the box (cluth cable/radiator side)

The chances of you finding another gearbox in the scrap yard are slim.

Just have the box out and send it on a pallet to Agency.

okay got the box out last night and the scrap yard has two clio box`s. He needs to know weither the speedo runs of the abs or the actual box.

i cant see anything apart from this that would be a speed sensor, i think this is a crankshaft position sensor

Yea thats cranks sensor. The soeedo will drive off the ABS on a 182.

Are they 172/182 boxes they have? Not all Clio boxes are the same.

How much are they asking for a used box?

The speedo sensor is normally to the rear of the box, if it has one
