So soon too. I just bought a 680.

Well worth the money - now we can play our Xbox conversions at 2000fps instead 1950fps.

Seriously though it is a really nice bit of kit but yeah I'd go for a single 680 or take the SLI route.

Kind of weird really; with my own money I'd never buy the 690 and if I won the lottery it still wouldn't be top of my list.

Kind of hard to see who would want it? It is bling for sure but I ain't gonna bring a bird back and start showing her inside my case and most of the people buying those won't be bringing a bird back full stop I suspect. I think the article linked above forgets that when comparing it with a Veyron!

Besides the price the thing that is off putting is they don't scale well at all in quad SLI. So you're left with one for the hearty price or 680 SLi. On the plus side when losing a couple of frames you gain much better power consumption.

Dual GPU cards are a niche market though, always have been

Cards like these would sell so much more if games would progress alot further than console quality like toypop said.

These sort of cards are for people with 3+ monitors tbh

Takes a lot of GPU power to run those huge resolutions regardless of whether the game is console quality or developed for PC

I've ran a couple of dual cards in the past - 7950GX2 and a GTX295.

Both performed really well and suited my needs at the time. Currently slumming it with twin GTX580 :(

Those are good cards, m8! I'm running SLi'd GTX460's at the moment still - and they are pretty good at running most things in high. The only thing that insta-killed it was with The Witcher 2 when ubersampling was enabled........ craaaaawwwwwllllll ;)

D.

Yeah they're still awesome cards. Everything looks amazing at 120hz on my sw**ky new Samsung monitor. May as well be a thousand framers per second

Did anyone ever get a 690? Experiences?

Despite what I posted in this thread I am actually seriously considering one instead of dual 680's.

Seem to be stock shortages though.

As much as I appreciate and enjoy the technology and advances the GTX 690 brings I think the price is ridiculous. I just hope that some sort of precedent isn't being set! What next? £1200? £1500? For the price of a 690 you can buy a half-decent PC system... :D

If you've got money to burn, run a multiple monitor setup (greater than 1080p) and/or have a 3D setup (such as nVidia 3D Vision) then go for it! LOL! If not, I'd hold on to the pennies for a bit longer and see what's around the corner.

Unless you're one of these power saving people, it's all about the proper SLI

Curiously I have seen benchmarks that showed far closer gaps and the 690 ahead in some places.

That being said I was considering the 690 based on the performance differential shown in those benchmarks you posted. The main draw being the lower volume levels.

Shop stock levels are such that I most likely will go down the true SLI route.
