getting a capri!

after alot of thinking i'm planning on getting rid of the clio next year while i sort myself out well purchase my business, but i'm thinking on getting a capri and giving it the full works?

anyone know if a chevy v8 will go in? i'm planning on getting the capri v8 so i'm guessing their wont be to much work?

much more bhp/£££ then a clio anyday :) easy 500bhp the cards without trying and i can go sideways all the time!

Good call Mark. I was looking at a white V6 lastweek parked up. Was the first one i had seen for ages and it looked really smart. Completely standard outside with just a pair of Recaros inside. :cool:
 
I've seen boats handle better than them round corners, walloy isn't the word lol ! They need a good suspension set up on them !

well just getting sick of all the new crap really, i can make a tax exempt quick car on classic car insurance :) but will be fully brought up to date!

I've seen boats handle better than them round corners, walloy isn't the word lol ! They need a good suspension set up on them !

most look really high to me i'm sure i could get a set of coilovers made up, and plenty of weight to be lose in replacing wings/bonnet with fibreglass jobies

and think how much polycarb windows would save!
 
When I had my valver back in the day a v6 (2.8 I think) capri tried it on with me, I pee'd on it & when we got to a roundabout the thing was all over the place, I swear that it had sponges for shocks lol !!
I honestly expected him to bin it right in front of me, it was awful, the dude weren't even trying to drift it either.

My dad used to restore them,he has a mint Mk11 2.0S in silver(identical to the one in the professionals).He has had 2.8i,3.0S,and a lovely Brooklands 280 amongst loads of others.Expect to pay good money for a donor car or expect to get handy with a welder if you buy a cheap one.

I got offered a mint 280 Brooklands cheap as chips a few years ago, kick myself when I see what there worth now.

There isn't a V8 one as standard, V6 was the biggest. You'll find it hideous to drive after your Clio though...

Keep a ford engine in it. Go with the 5.0 Cammer. Good high reving V8 fun and an easy 500hp.

Although the small block chevy might be easier to find saying that.

They do a cologne V6 2.8i basicly the same engine as the Cortina Mk4/5 2.3 and the Sierra 2.9 Xr4 they also made an Essex V6 3.0 version which is often bored out to 3.1. There wasnt a V8 from the factory.

The best bet is a 2.8i the special has half leather a 5 spd box and is fitted with a LSD from a special.

I basicly built one of these from scratch about 10 years ago with my mate. It went like s**t off a shovel but they suck fuel like it's going out of fashion.

I remember mini roundabouts. If you want to go back the way you came: The turning circle isnt the best, just double de-clutch drop it into first (and if the road is 100% clear of cars and pedestrians) just turn the wheel to the right and plant your foot and you'll face the way you came even in the dry. We had it spinning up in 4th (only had 4 gears lol) in the wet.

BTW I'm very f**king envious. If I didn't have a gf who nags about anything with four wheels less sensible than a toyota aygo I'd have one of these tomorrow. The 'fun' of owning a car like this would be totally spoiled by the constant nagging I'd have to endure!

If you want free tax.
You may get a MK1 capri with an Essex 3.0 but the colognes werent brought out untill the MK3. An Early Mk1 or the first year production run MK1 Facelift would be tax exempt but not the MK2/3.

Anything Pre 1973 is tax free. Hence why I want an old mustang. Seriously though dude once you have an old ford you'll be gutted getting behind the wheel of a modern car in the future.
Old skool rwd fords (and not just the 'obviouse' Mk1 escorts) will really put a smile on your face when you go for a drive.
 
A dude near me had an F reg 280 brooklands, sily rare as I think they stopped on E reg, I guess it was a late registered one.

I'd much rather an old escort tbh.

yeah, I had a capri 2.8 V6 a good few years ago, was great at drifting, even if you didn't want the bloody thing to lol ;)

shocking handling std, makes the Clio V6 feel like a cup ;)

I love the look of the tickfords and their cool front end :)

'only' around 200bhp from the 2.8 as stock but lots of fun.

A mate had a 1.6 sport that he loved, said it was one of the most fun cars he's ever had, and he really rated the 1.6, although think it had been tinkered with a little. Guess it's a bit lighter than the 2.8 and even the 2 litre lumps.
 
cool, my dad has 3 v6 capris, i can get u pics if you want,

im nt sure about fitting a v8 in but i kno plenty of guys who has fitted the sierra rs cosworths engines into the 2.8i shells (the 2.8i has a LSD)

was a fooking demon of a car!!!

It was Peter Tomalin at EVO with the V8 Capri

I'd never have one tbh. I'd much rather use an S14 200SX/Silvia as a platform to tune. So many off-the-shelf parts for them too

theres one of these sat in the garage where im building my valver, its got a janspeed exhaust and sounds like a big american muscle car, it loves to drift aswell had a bit of fun in the empty yard outside the garage, bit wild, but ultimate classic ford :cool:

Chevy V8 and Rover V8 will slot straight in - Tickover in Bexleyheath are the people to talk to about it. Get a nice alloy block Chevy lump if you want go without the weight penalty and massive tuning potential from cheap US parts. Rover V8 weighs about the same as a 2 litre pinto engine and are relatively easy to source. You'll find lots and lots of help here:

some cool pics coming up, thats the kind of look i'm going for clio luke apart from i'm ditching the inner 2 lights and having a grill made up, kind of like how the golf's go from 4 front lights to 2 and having the bonnet edge lowered slightly,Then having the bonnet pins with the thread going back around the bonnet to the bottom of pin often seen on mustangs etc.

i would get a mustang but i've been searching and i think with abit of a keen eye,good taste and 2 parts fool the mk3 capri would make a great street machine, not the best around corners but easily cool :)

oh i didnt mention i want a supercharger scoop on the bonnet :)

They can be made to go round corners - they were raced loads in their day and therefore there are lots of suspension parts available.

donor car will be cheap off ebay but its getting stripped,dipped and rebuilt from scratch how i want it to be :) got a shop to rebuild first though lol :)

are they superlites on the above? like on the mini?

Compomotive ML's 7x15. I'd suggest buying a mint 1.6 laser as your base if you go the mk3 route - hunt around and find one that's been stored. The best of the best should be around £1,700. I would suggest places to look for rust - but it can be simplified to EVERYWHERE!! Rotboxes are all over the place, so take your time looking for the right shell, it will save you ££££ in the long run.

See my first post in this thread. The small dent was aquired drifting into a signpost!

Truth be told though, it was a fantastic car to slide. Easily broke traction in first, second and third. Hardly any weight at the back and a V8 up front = oversteer on tap. My Rover V8 engined (RIP) example weighed in at 1,100kg and had around 250ish bhp. Just don't get carried away and think you can catch any slide, no matter how big - especially in the wet.
