Girlfriend on the insurance...

  BMW E46 330i Touring
Well, when I got the 172, it was decided that it would be 'our' car: helps reduce the repayments!

But, the Mrs is a provisional licence holder and insurance companies wouldn't let her near my policy. Well now she's about 6 weeks away from a test but there I am thinking that it still won't work having her on the insurance because it'll cost too much to be practical.

Thanks a lot Admiral, charging me £650 fully comp with her added, actually reducing my renewal cost from £740 for just me on my own... I need a new excuse, and fast! :S

lol, no good, she used confused.com herself, and then went to Admiral in particular to get this ridiculously cheap quote!

A 172 from having just passed her test?

For her own sake, I wouldn't let her... not unless she is willing to take and pass the Advanced Driving Test and then do a few hours on a big open airfield to get used to the power, the brakes and how it handles at the limit!!!

I know girls are more "sensible" but I've also known girls who drive like complete maniacs and girls who can't control a car for s**t...

Much the same as newly passed boys I guess! lol

I just think it's a bad idea to have so much power straight away. :)

  Mégane RS
strange, wouldnt have thought they would insure someone who just passed on a 172 for that cheap

My 172 is my first car, as long as you take it easy for a few days to get used to the power you should be fine.

One of my mates is trying to pursuade me to let her drive my cup. At the moment i'm telling her when the weather picks up but I think she'll get a big shock at the raw brutality of it compared to her 1.3 Swift! I think its safer for my sanity and her safety that she stays well clear from the drivers seat!

I still think that 'a few days' is nowhere near long enough... (think I'm getting old or something... Lol)

It only takes that first time that someone baits you to have you put your foot down and end up doing speeds that you aren't used to and may struggle to stop from or understand how it handles at an elevated speed - mine still catches me out occasionally when I'm not paying full attention (though I know I'm not perfect lol)

I take what you're saying on board, but I just remember how I drove when I first passed, and it's a good job I didn't have a more powerful car... :S lol

I'll ditto that. I've had my Cup 4 months now and it is continualy scaring the living s**t out of me. I'm looking fwd to the summer for when the roads are dry but at the same time I'm fearing it.

You'll see my efforts as a teenager with a 1.1 in the media section. :dapprove:

  A4 Avant & A3
i insured my misses on my cup when i bought it...
She doesn't drive it that much thought, first time driving it, she pulled away while turning into a road and put her foot down a bit too much & that scared her a bit lol
Luckily we were on our way back form the pub, i'd had a couple of shandy's ;-) so wasn't too hard on her, infact i did chuckle a little (she's lucky i wasn't sober lol).

That put her off for a while.

She's driven on a provisional for about 4/5 years now, and has been behind the wheel of some 'relatively' powerful cars (basic stuff like 1.8 Astras and the like) so I'm not too worried about the shock of the power, but the "new driver curse" that comes with increased confidence...

Ah well, it's all fully comp and it's only a car... should I put my "Mk1 172" advert in the 'wanted' section up now!?! :(

My other half passed her test 7 or so years ago but had never driven since till a year and a bit ago.

She then got a job which needed ehr to drive so she learnt again in my 19 16v :)

She's got her 1 litre Micra now and even though she's on the ins for the 172 she won't drive it as it's too big :p

  Racing Blue 182
My gf was insured on my 182 from the day i got it, she had a provisional license at the time and was 17. She then pased her test and i got a £170 refund - thats with elephant.co.uk

My girlf had a brand new 1.2 16v dynamique when she first passed her test, she used to scare me in that sometimes, although she never drove particually quick. Then she took a mk1 172 out for a test drive and i went with her, drove far quicker than she ever used to yet it all seemed so much more controlled, with the 172 being more designed to be driven in that way.
Although she can't park to save her life, she's never ever scuffed an alloy and must have covered about 20k in her Clio and 10k in her cc

  RenaultSport clio 182 cup
Got my new 182 cup, went with elephant on insurance put gf on, dropped it by £100 ! Admirl i think are under writers of elephant, they quoted me well cheap but wanted to put a gps system in so they knew where i was and speed i was traveling !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont think so . lol.

Keep telling my gf to hold the steering wheel proply when accelerating !!!!! HELP

  BMW E46 330i Touring
lol, mine's a nightmare for bad habits... think she'll have to be taught the perils of torque steer in an empty car park!
