Ive got a 2002 1.2 clio authentique at the moment with 65bhp and ive just recently got a new job! working in direct line motor insurance!! so im eager to buy a second hand motor around the 2002 area!

All ive dont to my clio is bang a 1.6 megane k&n on and lowered it 60mm but i really dont think its got that power for over taking!! its nippy and sounds great but with it only being a 1.2 8v im not all that impressed with power "obviously".

so i thought! "lets have a look for another car"!

off i went to the renault garage and asked to test drive a 2002 1.4 16v dynamique and the 172 cup! unfortunately the 1.4 wasnt in so i just went out in the beast!! thrashed the b****cks off it and was really interested!! being 19, (20 in a months time) i knew i would have "issues" when it came to the insurance but thought hay ho!!! so i phoned up and there not going to insure me till im 21! tut!

so now i want as many oppinions off people who own a 2002 1.4 clio wheather it be a dynamique/ expression etc etc whats the differences <<?

cause im really interested in buying one in the near future!!

wheres the best place to look for one?? jamjar is supposed to be competative!!

any comments will be appreciated!!

I phoned Churchill up and they said "sorry sir we dont insure anyone of your age on a car like that". Im 25 and it was for a cup!!!

come on mate, u know better than to call 1 insurer!!! get on the phone ALL DAY, its the only way sometimes unfortunately

Yup I used ot phone 20-30 companies to get a decent price. I can remember one bloke gave me loads of abuse as someone had quoted me £700 for my last car - it was along the line of "there feckn mad - thats far too cheap! how dare you phone me expecting us to insure you etc etc" LOL

well i thought if i could get insured with direct line it would be a double bonus cause A-they are reasonably cheap "not on commission" lol b- i get a 25% discount off my insurance with them!! so i didnt think any other insurance company could possibly give me a quote under £2000

Get yourself a 172 or if you cant get that get a 1.6 16valve, get yourself a fast motor!

Yep the 1.6 dynamique is a closer compromise to the 172. The insurance cant be that huge a difference over the 1.4? I own both so biased but reckon the 1.6 is the best allrounder in the Clio range.

Im 20 and was also thinking about trading mine in for a cup (altho ive only had mine 4 mths!) has anyone got any idea how much the cup could cost to insure? Elephant.com are usually ok but I cant remember my password to get a quote! Does anyone know any other online insurers who might do me an online quote?

http://www.confused.comwww.confused.com are good for quotes i believe.

I drove a 1.4 16v coutesy car and it was quite powerful and gave u confidence when overtaking which my diesel dont give you. However if your spending that sort of money wont you feel like you took the cheap option. Get a year or two old clio for the same money. In my opinion you will always want more power so why not start with the biggest engine u can.

The 1.4 is ok but the 172 would fly. Unfortunately thats probably all the same as everyone else has said but thats all people think when u say whats a 1.4 or 1.6 like. The two clios everyone thinks of IMO ae the 1.2 16V and the 2.0

I have a 1.4 16v, before buying it i had the use of a 1.2 16v for a weekend and i can feel a real difference between the two.

Personally i would suggest if you can afford it go for the 1.6 16v.

Forget jamjar, try http://www.broker4cars.co.ukwww.broker4cars.co.uk

On a price basis i got my 1.4 16v with metallic paint for £8390 on the road
