Hi all

Where do you all mount your go pro’s from as I’m looking for ideas. And what sort of mounts do you use, any pics would help a lot

Think that is what I need the pivot part. As I have a suction pad but need it to spin to view the center of the car more

If your using it for track then a suction cup mount always requires an additional tether. Which limits you to placing it below the rear view mirror.

For my old Clio j just made my own headrest mount and used the bicycle handlebar clamp that came with my SJCAM.

Where to mount go pro on a trackday?

After taking my go pro to donington in the hope of getting some footage, I found out that you weren't allowed suction mounts or to have it mounted on the helmet. I don't have a roll cage so I was wondering where abouts I could actually mount it to to get some decent footage Cheers

Depends if you want you (the driver) in the image or not. It’s easy to mount off of the dash and you get the best view out of the car but you can’t see what the drivers doing.

Mounting off of the cage X is good but you don’t see much of out the front and the GoPro seams to struggle with contrast. Inside looks good but outside is so bright you can’t make out anything. I’ve found turning the go pro on out side and not in the pit garage helps reduce this.

Ideally you need the camera near the side of your head area between the two seats but it awkward to achieve this. But with this you get a good image of how you’re driving and what’s going on outside

Thanks for the replies seems like the headrest is best bet. I haven’t got a cage. I do have a suction mount but it just doesn’t work great. Either way I’m going tether is as got told off before for having it on the helmet lol

Yeah I got told to remove it from my helmet, my favourite view as well.

I made one for the headrest, a bit of 20mm ali square tube, some rivnuts, a go-pro mount, a piece of ali sheet for the clamp and all wrapped up with self-amalgamating tape to take off sharp edges.

One of the supplied 3m sticky mounts and the standard arm mount that clicks in.

I've got the Hague headrest strut mount which works flawlessly, has done for 15 years now, but as the seat moves a little when you're hammering it on track you ideally need something with some inbuilt stabilisation to compensate for that movement.

For an alternative, and without needing to buy a suction mount, consider using one of the flat sticky mounts on your windscreen. I use it to have the camera facing inwards but you could easily have it facing forwards as well. You will probably need a tether as well for that one...I use para cord ones which are available on eBay/Amazon for actual pennies. As it's a fixed rigid mount you need zero stabilisation.

Also, if you can, get hold of one of the swivel ball mounts I'm using in the picture above. I think GoPro have discontinued them now so I tend to buy them whenever they come up for <£20 - it completely removes the old two axis only alignment issues you might have and blows away every other swivel/ball type mount I've tried...and I've tried a few!

This is the ONLY way I've found to capture the true gradient and elevation changes on camera
