going to look at a mk2 172 what to look for

going to look at a iceberg silver mk2 172 tomorrow with 24k on the clock and was wondering what to look out for?

its a 2003 03 plate.

whats the cambelt on these due at, 5yrs 72k?

i know about the banging in first n 2nd gear and know thats not a big problem as ive fixed one before with the washers fred told me about.

now am i right in thinking these are due a service every 12k, meaning its due 1 now if it hasnt already been done? just so i can get them to do one free if i like it.

its up for £7.600 which i thought was a bit much even considering the millage what do you guys think its worth? (keeping in mind ive been looking for a low millage mk2 in iceberg for ages!)

cheers

Yeah cambelt is five years or 72k - tbh it's a lot of money, you could get an 04 reg 182 for that price.

I'd say it's worth about 7k absolute absolute top end in mint condition.

I'd go lower tbh. As I said for 7k it would have to be totally mint (let alone the joke asking price they want for it)

thats way too expensive, offer him 6.5k max! can get a 182 for a bit more.
oh if its a garage then it might not be TOO extreme considering the grands they whack on top!

check its not an import.

should have a 6 disk changer under the passenger seat, and should also have an alarm light at the top left of the gear stick

Ignore all this 182 business..10bhp doesn't make it that much of a better car plus al of newer cars can be in worse conditions than older ones anyway.....all depends on owners etc.

If it's a really good car I'd offer £6.500 for it....definately factor in the cambelt costs as it will need doing.

the 182 will hold its value better.....

Maybe but still not a better car

I've seen 04/05 plate examples that look far worse than my old 02 plate shed !

yep its a dealer, a toyota dealer at that.

what year did they start adding cruise control and esp?

You'll find most 53 plates will have ESP but not cruise, the later ones will have both. The very latest 04 plate ones should have both but some don't.

I've been casting a shifty eye at this as well incase you can't tell lol.

Yeah, I agree, that's way too much wonga, knock him down to at least 7k, but i'd try for even less, if not then at least get em to tax it with a full tank of juice and a service, screw the stealers like they do us!:rasp:

Service is every 12k or year, so which ever is first, so as it's 4 years old, age would be the service factor not millage.
