After much deliberation, I’ve upgraded from the GTi to this. An R has always been on my want list so finally bit the bullet and bought this - a 7.5 facelift DSG :

Looks great does that do love lapis blue on these but just too common Indium is a much stealth colour 😎 once you go dsg you will never buy a manual again🤣 7.5 is much better interior than a 7 best wheels too.

What options on it? Plans for it? and how does it compare to GTI?

Get a ghost or a pandora on it too top priority.

half ounce of haze on tick please mate?

Sorry force of habit, looks lovely! How does it compare against the GTI?

I'd hoped that not going for white or blue on Cadiz I'd avoid that stigma ;) haha

Manual v DSG is an immediate noticeable difference - particularly as the 7 speed DSG is set to efficiency if you just want to drive it lazily and feather the throttle it's idea and you find yourself doing 30 in 4th or 5th which is strange! But I find it equally good if you want to drive it with a bit more spirit, I just adjust my driving style accordingly - whereas I know others have gripes about this I'm ok with it.

Aside from the obvious power upgrade it just puts down the power better - no torque steer and scrabbling around like the GTi and pulls hard out of roundabouts or corners. Not forgetting that I had probably slightly compromised my ability to B road blat the GTI by lowering it! It maybe slightly less nimble than the GTi occasionally but still covers ground well and I don't feel detached from driving so far in the 600 miles I've done.

Admittedly, I did regret not buying another Performance pack GTi when I was driving this silver one (had a DSG PP previously) as the difference the diff makes is noticeable.

The interior with the digital dash and better head unit is also making it a nicer place to be - things like Apple Carplay all integrating better as well is a nice bonus too.

I went for Indium for that reason - and as you say the interior upgrade from a 7 to 7.5 is much more noticeable.

It has Dynaudio, climate screen, 90% tints and the Pretoria's. I think that's it... enough for me spec wise!

I've no immediate plans to tinker with this one cosmetically - but I know my mate will sort me a remap when I'm ready ;)

Thanks chaps! Yes, I think they've got it quite right with this.

I was convinced on going something different having had so many Golf's... but last minute swayed back from an M140 to this
Wasn't blown away by the M140i. Prefer the Cupra in its current form tbh.

Nice upgrade. The manual gearbox in the Mk7/7.5 R’s isn’t great, i’ve read a lot about the clutch slipping at standard power.

They are difficult to fault, very good cars to live with if you can possibly live with virgins calling you a drug dealer on a forum😅

Yeah the manual's definitely can't cope with the power... neither can remapped GTi's - Stage 1 on a MK7 GTi puts you to R power territory... inevitable though to add 70bhp to something and find you have a slippy clutch. But pretty poor when it comes out the factory that way!

I liked the noise they made but interior wasn’t quite as nice a play to be… I’ve been close to buying twice and each time change my mind at the last minute for something VAG… the fact my mate owns the local VAG specialist is a useful influence on that decision too
