Good polish for Black Gold 182?

  Clio 182
I'm looking for some good black polish for making a Black Gold 182 looks like the absolute dogs danglies... one that does a very good job of covering up minor scratches and will make the car look as good as new. Can anyone please reccommend me a good one that isn't too pricey please? Thanks in advance.:)

I ve always had good results with Autoglym Super Resin Polish, its available off the shelf from the likes of Halfords and doesn't cost the earth.
Im not sure how far your planning on going with this detailing lark but it may well be worth claying the car first (especially if it has never been done before). Applying the SRP followed by some sort of sealant ( ive heard jeffs is good). Then topping the whole lot off with some decent wax.

Just wash and polish mate to be honest... the car will get dirty in a couple of days so I see no point going overboard only to see it all undone in a very short space of time! :)

Wax it aswell SRP has some protection but not much megs #16 only cost 11 quid and last well

A polish itself won't cost that much, think at a consumer size the most you will pay is about £20, its the wax that can get expensive. AG SRP is good for looks and a bit of protection but won't really get rid of many marks, you want something with a little more cut in it than that, and for these sorts of polishes ideally you want to apply them by machine to properly break them down. By hand you will be nackered especially on black. Not used it myself but Rich and a few on Detailing World like the Carlack polishing kit with German Applicator so might be acceptable if your on a budget.

Once you have polished though you should really put on some sealant and/ or wax to protect the paint, and will make washing next time a lot easier.

To get the best of of Black Gold it will need to be machine polished really, I gave up on mine and ended up getting a machine.

By hand I used to get better results with Glaze type products and a nice Carnuba wax.

I love it when you talk dirty.

By hand it's very difficult to break down the polish properly. Menzerna PO91L applied with a German Applicator worls well, but obviously not as well as a machine.

If you are just looking to freshen the paintwork up, I'd reccomend Carlack Nano Systematic Care as the paintwork cleaner/sealer. It's similar to the SRP but no dust and doesn't stain trims anything like SRP.

It removes suprising levels of contamination being a non abrasive paintwork cleaner and one application will last about 3 months.

Top it with a wax such as Collinite #476s and you'll be very impressed with the finish.

I ended up going for the Meguiars Shampoo and the Meguiars Wax... i'll give it a go and see hwat it's like. :)

TBH mate its well worth taking time to do your BG properly. When you have and your driving looking in the side mirrors, the shine you can get on these is immense.

Check these out. This was with claying that had been done 4 months prior, with Super Resin Polish, 2 layers of Extra Gloss Protection applied a week apart and then a fresh layer of Collinite 476.

since then I did the post winter clean up but didnt stick any piccys up. same again really, clay, paint cleaner, SRP, EGP x1 and then a layer of 476. Reflections are even sharper now, in the mirror when you drive its like full on reflections.

Added bonus is its so easy to clean when the surface is prepped well. Quick 2 bucket, dry and quik detail spray brings it up sweet.

My Processes on Black Gold

Wash - Meguiars Shampoo Plus
Clay - Anything non agressive
Machine Polish as needed with Menzerna Intensive Polish and/or Final Finish
Prep paint for Sealant with Autoglym Super Resin Polish
Seal with Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection or Jeffs Acylic Jett Trigger
Wax - Swisswax Onyx

If no access to a machinbe polisher use some Menzerna PO91L by han d and then use the SRP.

If you don't need long lasting durability and just want out and out looks, ditch the SRP and EGP/Jeffs and use a nice pre wax cleaner or Glaze and go straight to wax

Wash - Meguiars Shampoo Plus
Clay - Anything non agressive
Machine Polish as needed with Menzerna Intensive Polish and/or Final Finish
Prep paint for wax, Swissvax Cleaner Fluid or Clearkote Vannilla Moose Glaze

I have had mine over a year but I do have loads of other Waxes. Even if you used a coat once a month I reckon it would last 2-3 years.

Not very often now as I have far to many other waxes! I would reapply Onyx once every 1-2 months though.

No just wax applied by hand.

Car had been machine polished about 6 months or so before.

Have you ever used any paste type waxes before ?

A small amount, a swipe across the top of the tub is good to do a door or wing or so sat 1/4 of a roof or bonnet. Little goes a long way. Nice and thin is the key as anything you remove is excess wasted product.

I've never used anything but bog-standard polish on a bog-standard car... this is the first motor i've ever had that i've felt genuinely proud of! :D

Looks sweet - Beauty of 16 is it is nice and durable, gives a nice clear wet look, just seems to lack the depth and ease of use of some other waxes.

  Megane R26
Excellent results with the Onyx... truly sexual!

That 182 does look a little high... do they all sit like that?

  Clio 182
Yup that's completely stock! Bear in mind it is on a bit of a slant though so maybe exagerrated a bit.

In general how much does lowering cost including labour... and how much do you think would be a good amoun, 30mm or so? Does the handling greatly improve too?

Aa standard they look high seem to benefit from a small drop, look in media at the Prolines thread, seems to give them a better stance.
