Good Wax Polish

  1997 Mk1 Ph3
Hi, I've got a 1997 R reg Mk1 Clio in Dark Blue. It shines up quite good when its cleaned and polished, but when its polished all of the little scratches in the paintwork stand out ALOT.

I work at Halfords and there is a huge choice of wax products on the shelf, but because I work on car enhancement, I don't really know which ones are the best. I recently used that Turtle Wax Ice and it was brilliant, but I have been looking more towards the Turtle Wax colour Magic.

Anyone any suggestions?

You want a polish to 'cut' out the fine scratches and a wax to seal the nice finish and protect the paintwork.

Cant go wrong with the Autoglym range that you have in Halfords.

Super resin polish for polishing and extra gloss protection for sealing the finish.

Most importantly, get one of your Lambswool washmitts. Soooo much better than a sponge and doesnt have the problem of inducing more swirl marks.

If you're after top quality stuff, its gonna be mail order really, I dont seem to be able to get from Halfords.

Meguiars range of stuff is very good though.

PS, only way to really get your fine scratches out is a machine polish. I have all the gear and only live out Newark way:D

I bought my car from newark. Probably seen it around.
I think i'll go buy something like that, I dont want to spend a fortune on it.
Its only an R reg... you know what they say, no point polishing a turd!

Probably an easier way is to use AG super resin polish then wax with the new Autoglym Aqua Wax.:)

EGP is very durable though.

no s**t, ive just applied some to the colt, and its beading like nothing ive seen for a long time, i dont know why i ever left egp in the first place.

Super resin polish (autoglym) will mask swirls, or its ment to. IMO it doesnt do a good job on deeper swirls and i only use it as a basecoat for wax or sealant.

try and get into machine polishing, im sure youll be able to find a silverline rotary for 40-50 quid and buy yourself some pads and polish (for f**k sake dont get the meguiars range they are s**t!) to play with, itl remove the swial marks and some scratches and leave a really nice finish.

Because it's a pain to apply, a b*****d to remove and needs an hour to cure! lol.

Are Meguiars really that bad? Do you mean the PC or the products, or both? I was just thinking of getting the G220..

I was on detailing world the other day and there was a poll of who's Megs G220 has either failed or had to be replaced under warranty.

I think it was something like 30%+

Not good. They are good when they're working I'm sure but, thats a hell of a high percentage.:S

BTW Super resin polish has fillers in so masks up minor imperfections.

And yeah, EGP is a b4stard to apply and remove.

I use Jeffs Acrylic Jett Trigger now:cool:. Spray on, wipe over panel, buff off. Job done. Whole car - 20 mins?:approve:

use my megs machine alot and have just started to get some problems with it. it'll no doubt get worse when the warranty has finished resulting in me getting a makita :(

I don't understand these issues with EGP - whack it on a MF applicator, spread a thin layer, then buff it off 30 mins later.

It only bonds with SRP though, so if you aren't applying on SRP, that will be your problem.

For the original poster, you need SRP and EGP from what you have at your disposal. Megs Scratch X is worth a go too.

Not sounding good on that front then, although haven't they released a revised version of it or something? Are Makita a more reliable alternative then?

brilliant stuff highly recommended here too

resulting in me getting a makita :(

Logical step can see myself doing it soon - Altho pc is still running perfectly and it has seen some action (crosses fingers)

To the OP AutoGlym Super Resin is probably what your looking for I would invest in some Werkstat Acrylic Jett from Polished Bliss aswell imho (awaits the blitz guys sticking their oar in)
