I rang goodyear today and they said EU licenced F1 Gsd3's are made in china or germany NOT Thailand, should have the E on and i should contact my tyre place for replacement. If any problems then to contact trading standards. Mine say made in thailand in big-ass writing and dont even have an E on them !!

My tyre guy would only sell them to me if they came from Germany - which they did - I'm happy

yeah after some arguments and some documents showing legal f1's i got it done!!

Cheers. Worst case scenario I'll get trading standards involved but first stop tomorrow will be a phonecall to Goodyear to confirm what I've read on various forums.

Riz - any help or advice you can give would be appreciated mate. PM me if you like. Cheers.

Not happy about this...

Where are you 2 guys based and what size GSD3's are we looking at? will get ours checked at work as some of the international suppliers do this sometimes.

Well mine were bought from a place near Edinburgh, 215/40/17 83W.

As far as I've read from searching various forums, the issue is only with "Made in Thailand" GSD3s. The German and Chinese made ones are OK as they're designed and manufactured to the same spec for use in Europe (and are labelled as E13 or E5 I think). The Thailand-made tyres use a totally different compound designed for warmer climates such as the US and are a bit s**te in colder, wetter conditions like the UK's climate.

I ain't paying a lot of money for tyres when I could get much better performance for the same money...

Gumby - I can't remember if it's too hard or too soft? I think you're right as I heard about them being rather easy to get them screaming around corners (just like in American car chases...)

Ya they're too hard mate in our mediocre weather :D - just as winter tyres are far too soft for anything above about 10 degrees.

They'd last for ages, but the car might have found a ditch in which to reside by then ;)

Either E-arking is fine.

The others are J marked for the asian market. Sometime distributors can get them cheap and its us wholesalers that get the s**t for it.

Anyone had any trouble with the 195's?

ring goodyear get the email and print out and show garage!!

Cheers Riz

Spoke to technical dept at Goodyear yesterday, they confirmed the issue. Contacted tyre place - they're going to replace them no probs. Problem solved but a bit of a pain in the arse having the problem to start with.
