got by a speed camera :-(

  Clio 172 Cup

I was out tonight about 11PM on a quiet road on my way home. The road was a national speed limit zone, which then went into what i thought was a 40 zone. I knew that there was a speed camera coming up, i just thought the limit was 40, so i went through at 38-39MPH and it double flashed me, therefore the limit must be 30!!!!! Gutted.

The thing is im 90% sure that last time i was on that road about 18 months ago it used to be a 40 zone.

If i get this through, can i argue that last time i was on the road it was a 40 zone, plus it was late at night with no other cars around in the area, which wasnt built up at all - i.e. it wasnt really dangerous. Or will i be wasting my time? Has anyone actually appealed and got away with it - if so what did you say!!!!

PS this is my first offence

wasting your time mate, there would have been signposts if it was a 40...

take it on the chin bud.

IMO you cannot make that plea as there must be road signs and if you havent correctly read them you are not paying due care and attention.

If you travelled the road every day for 20 years and then one day they suddenly change the limit and you get caught on following day i am sure you would have more of a case but not if you drove it 6 months ago IMO.

Just need to take it on the chin and accept the punishment if it comes through.

wierd, we both said to take it on the chin.....

Im gonna travel the road to see if there is anything i can complain about - like dirty speed limit signs etc - hopefully ill be in luck. I cant believe it - even when im unsure i always do 30 - so to do 38 means i was pretty sure it was 40 - very annoyed at myself. Im hoping that because its in a quiet area and late at night i might get away with it.............but knowing my luck ill get it :-(

LOL.. just plain weird mate

great minds think alike!!! (unless your peeping in my window LOL)

visit http://www.pepipoo.comwww.pepipoo.com . If there is a loophole, that might help you find it. For example, are you aware that many road limits are illegal? Thats because the authorities didnt go through the proper procedures when they changed a limit. Search the site, itll show you how to start investigating if they have changed the limit...it will involve some research eg looking back at plans etc (from the library or council).

I say, DONT take it on the chin!! You have NO hope that they might be leniant because it was a quiet road...they want your money!! end of story!

If you dont get the NIP within about 17 days (they have to post it within 14 days)...youre off scot free! Good luck. You sound like the kind of honest citizen that doesnt drive like an idiot but gets penalised for a trivial lapse of judgement/knowledge. Drive like the gits on Road Wars and involve cop cars, helicopters etc....they seem to get off with a warning (alright, Im being flippant, but you get the idea).

That 3 points is gonna cost you £60 PLUS 10 percent hike on your insurance premium for the next 5 years; if you dont believe me, go to an online insurance site, put in your details without the points and get the premium, then go back and do it with the points!

Thats unlkucky mate.

If it was just the fine and the points you wouldnt be bothered - I worked out that my 3 points cost me about 600 notes over 5 years.

F*cking scandalous.

My question is if you are unsure then why not drive 30, risking 40 when your not sure and you know there is a speed camera is just asking for trouble, why didnt u go 30 passed the camera then go back up to 40 later up the road if you were unsure?

he said he used to drive the road and it was a different speed limit so had no reason to think it was maybe 30mph, plus it was dark, sometimes if you know the road you dont take in all the road signs as your memory tells you what they say, it can be an easy mistake to make.

Fight it all the way mate. Bollox to all the people that say just accept it.

99% of people hate speed cameras and as this is a supposed democracy they shouldnt exist.

Its been proven that they have no effect on reducing accidents as since cameras have been introduced figures have increased.

Just because a few people decided your speed was wrong doesnt mean it was. Good luck m8!!!

its like if your driving on a completely new road though mate, if its fairly built up then go 30, and its true about slowing down for the camera - would it really have taken you much longer to get where you were going to just slow down, tbh just take the points mate, i hate cameras aswell, but if i got caught id just deal with it and accept the points

so if your sure a road is a 40 zone youll slow down to 30 through a camera? Doesnt make sense

The road my house is on has a speed camera and its a 40 zone, and i know it is, so i do 38-39 through the camera - just like the other road where i got flashed - theres no difference.

If I see a camera and cant see any speed limit signs in the immediate area I tend to go past at 25. If drivers behind me dont like it then they are welcome to overtake!

i know what your sayin mate but if you havent been on the road for 18 months then id be a bit cautious, because of how crafty the police are with putting them up and changing limits on roads, thats why i wudve slowed to 30 just in case, by all means try your best when taking the matter up with them but i dont know if youll get any luck with it.

"The latest victim is care nurse Carol Harrison, of Hesketh Court, Great Harwood, who was caught by the notorious Whalley Road speed camera nine times in 11 days and now faces fines of £540 and 27 penalty points. Just 12 points are enough to lose her licence and probably her job.
She says the first thing she knew about the changed speed limit was when the tickets started arriving in the post. This week she described the way she has been penalised as "ruthless" and is waiting to see if the court will come to her aid and allow her to avoid losing her licence and her job. "

Was she blind?!? lol

Wouldnt like to see her insurance quote next year! :p

Aye, Im the same. 80 on a dual carriageway - the points and fine I accept, Im being punished for breaking the law. Fair enough.

But the b*****d insurance company are charging me an additional £80 PER YEAR for disclosing my points. Therefore, the simple offence of going a bit too quickly is costing me £460 over 5 years... robbing gits.

I got let off (by traffic cops not camera) doing 98 in a 70. So I went out and got a Road Angel. I love it, I told everyone to get one. No one did untill they got caught (by cameras) and fined ££££ + insurance ££££. 4 of my friends have one now but only after getting caught do people buy one? Buy one now and save ££££££££

If every driver in the u.k bought a Road Angel the Government would be mailto:fu@ked">fu@ked due to no road side cash machines!!!

^^^^ your so enthusiatic about the road angel - i think you should buy me one :)

the thing is with all this is that i dont speed around like a f**king loon - i have been really unlucky if i do get the NIP through

if u dont know the roads and concentrating on finding ur destination then maybe knowing the speed limit, whteher it be 30/40 can be difficult. some of u on here chat b****cks tho by incinuating that u know the speed limit of every road and never make a mistake when driving.....and to condemn someone for doing a little over the speed limit....utter crap. IMO there isnt alot wrong with speeding, as long as u are driving within the limits & the conditions of the rd and taking into consideration if there is a school ahead etc. theres a difference between driving fast and driving dangerously. so u did 40 in a 30, 10 years ago it wouldnt have made a difference, and im suprised that so many of u on here never push your cars or venture more than 10% above the speed limit.

unlucky for getting caught fella.

The whole point here is that its obviously safer to drive around looking at signs, and wondering what the speed limit is for the oncoming camera, than it is to actually concentrate on the road ahead and drive according to the conditions...NOT

Head Nail On?
