Got my new engine help needed

Right ive got a 1.8 16v engine out a valver to go into my mark 2.

But i need to know a few things.

Will it go on my subframe?
What gearbox to use baring in mind i want the speedo?

Atm i have engine + all anciliaies.
loom and ECU
Exhaust manifold and downpipe the rest is getting fabricated.

Want to know if there ius any thing else that i will need before starting.

Ive already started cleaning up the engine + polishing bits up project thread will start soon.

You can use both your subframe and gearbox dude. The valver gearbox has different mounts but you could probably make it fit with some modification.

Aye keep your original gearbox for ease of mounting etc.

You will need the rad/fan and hoses aswell from a valver.

ye i got all the hoses air filteer distributor ect.

Valver starter motor is other side to my box though? its at back and mine is at front

ah you'll need a valver box then. If you use the valver topmount it should bolt up to the chassis fine.

Yours must be an 8v then? Wasn't aware any of the 16v's came with the starter on the front, only the D7F?


Gearbox wise, ANY JB box will fit so if you cant find a valver box, a 1.2/4/6 box will fit and bolt upto your current gearbox mount.

No way, lol. Im running a JB1 box from a 1.2 on my 1.6 though?!?!

I think it depends on the age of the engine...the engine code prefix is the same e.g k4m or whatever, but the newer engines (about 04 onwards) have the starter on the front.

Not sure on specific code suffix's or what have you, this is just what Ive noticed.

Possibly! I know the 8v's definately have it on the front as we had one in yesterday that wouldn't start, S plate.

Ph1 172, 172 cup, valver, williams all have the speedo drive on the gearbox
