Grab A Cuppa and Have Read of the last 24hrs !!!!

  BG Clio 182
Hope it all goes well in the end. Alloys don't look that terrible and original CD player and undamaged thumb grips on steering wheel suggest probably a straight car. MOT history check when you have the V5 through could reveal a bit more. The Fiesta doesn't appeal but Mazda 3 does :). Great story, enjoyed it

holy moly what a story, pleased you made it home.
I have been in a situation where i went to look at a car, took the train etc and bought a single ticket. When i turned up the car was a piece of s**t but i had planned to drive it home so i couldnt do much about it, had to buy it :( though as soon as i got home i put it up for sale and sold it for a £75 profit haha.

I still cannot believe you sold that Fiesta. :(

Is it only me that recogises that HT53 plate? I know it would have been common but the cups weren't that common.

I've seen loads of cups on HT53 plates, one yesterday in Kettering.

Hi Ben, its Dan from Snet. Wow sounds like a bad day. Hope its doesn't cost to much to fix - maybe you should of gone for mine after all! I wouldn't have done a runner and given you the V5. Hope it turns out all Ok for you

i know mate , tell me about it , but with the missis preggers i had to " grow up" , not my words.
:argue:

It just sat in my garage doing nothing tbh , i would never take it out when it rained, its what u could call a fair weather car, it was a waste

Mine gally?

Mines is HK03!

What a tale! I've travelled far and wide for cars but f**k all like that! :(

From looking at your avatar pic it just reminded me. How easy or hard is it to get one of those 172 cup badges for my door ??

One of mine has a broken 2 on the 172. Must of happened when he cleaned the car with his peice of rock !

Sounds like a proper snotter of a day that! Can't blame you for just wanting to get out of there.

Overall the car doesn't look too bad to be fair, few exhaust mounts, dogbone (lower engine) mount (get a polybushed one if you can) and then the "sounds like a tractor" is probably what Scrooge said, dephaser pulley. I'd probably do the belts to be sure too, as if the dephaser has gone you could do with doing it all.

Good luck with the car!

Also noticed you're missing a little bit of plastic trim on the underside of the car that covers the gear linkage on the gearbox end. Just being picky but will stop it getting gunked up with road grime.

Get a project thread on the go look forward to see where you take this!

When i actually start doing stuff then yea ill have to. Im thinking about ripping the running gear of and cleaning everything upand ripping the engine out wt the same time.

Just a quicky. For engine out is it up out or down and out. Easier with box on or off ??

And is it one of those boxes where the box oil comes out then the drive shafts come out ???

Cheers

Ben..

Proper c**t is that steve but as others have said you put your family first! At least you have the car not a bump over the head. At least you know your way around a car but if you've never done a cam belt on a f4r its a specialist job!

People say im special does that count ? ; )

Why is it so specialist then ???

Welcome to the forum Ben.

This place has plenty of people with a wealth of knowledge to hopefully get the Cup back on track.

I may have missed this after reading through the thread (nightmare of a story btw) but did you HPI it?

  A special one.
Its the locking pullys and the timing I believe pm your email address will send you a workshop manual

Would you mind pm me that info please?

I have the head to take off and cams to fit into my PH1.

Thank you. :)

Wish you all the best Ben. As said above, it doesn't look too bad to be fair.

Just a few odd jobs to get it up and running I guess.

Bradford - I live not too far away and it's not a place (unless dealer) you want to buy a car from! Ha.

Definitely get the cambelt/aux belt and dephaser changed by a specialist.

What a story I needed a fag after that, glad you made it out alive and I hope the V5 turns up for you.

I would have taken the guys head off if he made me travel 7.5 hrs for that saying it was mint and to give £40 off for a £50 MOT is an insult haha. Looks horrific for 2k IMO but everyone's idea of mint and good condition are different, it needs a respray more or less from looking at the pictures on my phone??

At least you seem to know your way about a car as I think you'll need it.

My my racecar is a HT53 also, registered in either Portsmouth, Hampshire, Isle of Wight or Dorset.

Re: Grab A Cuppa and Have Read of my last 24hrs !!!!

It's easy but where most go wrong is they set the cams with the bar, tighten it up then remove thinking it's done which isn't quite right.

The cams naturally resist the setting tool which puts them slightly out of position and the manual doesn't really explain this.
