Grinding Gears..in 172 :(

I drive a MK1 172, has about 114 000km on the clock, the last month or so there is quite a distinctive grind when changing from 2nd to 3rd gear, but sort of mellows down as the car warms up, and when driven for a while it just about goes away and 2nd to 3rd changes smoothly again, any ideas? :S

actually looking to sell the car soon, but this could be a problem if someone had to test drive it...

worn synchros i would say - a common problem on the jc5 gearbox.

can anyone explain how the grinding goes away as the car heats up?? :S

oil just thinner might help if you change your gearbox oil. but it does sound like worn synchros
