Grip

  S4 (320bhp) + Clio 16v

The other day i found a big lump of greese on my drives side door. After i saw it i noticed that my power steering seemed a lot lighter and wasnt making a massive noise all the time. But i have also noticed a big loss in grip in first gear. it spins up all the time. I no its wet and all but it never used to be this bad. pull away fast this morning and was spinning. so i came off the accelrator and went slowly back on it and it kept spinning untill second gear!!!!

Anyone got an idea as where the gresse might have come from and y its spinning so much???

it really sounds like just slippery road. dunno where the grease came from. can only be the CV joints, if it comes from the car

Yer im hoping its just slippery road! Wait and see what its like at lunch coz its really sunny today and the road is a lot dryer!

If it is from the cv joint is that bad????

check the CV joints rubber hoods. if they are split and grease went out and water went it, then the CV is doomed. Quote: Originally posted by tom-m on 02 March 2004

sounds like it could be from the driveshaft cv joint due to a split gaitor.if you check it and change the gaitor asap then you will prevent damage to the cv joint.

Not being very mechanicly minded. what would i have to look for or is it somthing simple???

just look at the rubber gaitor on the end of your driveshaft.you will know if its gone because grease will have been flung everywhere.

Yer must just be the slippy roads and my rubbish driving.

Haha, know what u mean once i start i cant stop!

hi mate not sure about the grease but possibly the reason your wheels are spinning is because youve driven over the grease on the ground which will obviously cause the car to spin, i always find that things like this are simple problems that seem huge, good luck buddy.
