must say golfs r a nice car well built and those folk that do them up make good jobs of them well some do. As in a cup been a future classic i read in a evo mag that said. Will the cup ever become a classic like my dads old LOTUS CORTINA? its only a matter of time. As for me i have the rare iceberg silver clio cup as i bet a few others in here do. So will that mean the silver iceberg cup will become even a bigger rarer classic i think so as ive heard 50 exist worldwide. The clio 172 cup started something new in the clio range a new breed that will start a chain reaction to future clios. Its light looks nice handles amazing and who knows what tuning will come along for them. As in the say the williams clio your always gonna remember what started it and for the mk2 clio your always gonna remember the cup.

as in it not oulasting the warranty i say take ya cups and get them waxoiled and keep on top of looking after the car am sure there will be around many years just like the golf. Ive seen some golfs that have never been looked after and arent that old and there ready for the scrap heap. I have seen many clio williams that have been looked after by there owners and how old r the clio williams but at the same time ive seen ones that have not been looked after. So the secret to making a future classic it to preseve it for the future.
Yawn, the 5 turbo 2 - classic, the R5GTT sort of classic, the Clio Williams - Classic, the Clio V6 - probably classic, but the cup???? lets get serious....
And as for "... the secret of making a future classic is to preserve it for the future" - well I know people whove got old mk1 granada 2.3 4 speeds, are they classics? theyre in good nick, but no way a classic lol

yeah i also know people with anglias and rs2000 escorts and they looked after them. As in granadas they where probably looked after tell me how many old granadas ya see on the road that r clean and dont say 100s? Tell ya what we will have this discussion again in say 10 years time thats if am still around like lol. Its like say the old mk1 fiestas many of them on the road when i 1st past test now there like hens lips same goes for the old mk1 gtes astras bet once over they took the piss out of them and look at them now ya cant get hold of a decent one. Its because at the min the clio cup isnt that old so ya got to wait a while ya gonna get some that get neglected ya gonna get some that get pranged ya gonna get some nasty b******s pinching them w**kers and so fourth. Tell me honest truth how many clio cup sports ya see a day? I see many clio sports, But i dont see many clio cups and i work in the centre of newcastle where at the min the traffic is phenomanal be lucky if i see 1 a day and that be mine you do see the odd blue one. But tell me r you gonna get a dencent one that hasnt been smashed up or had some sort of body work done to it. A well looked after original in say 8 to 10 years time? As in renault 5 turbo ive never seen a decent one thats still going and ya see them in the back of the auto trader for 500 quids its beacuse they never made a one that stood out the only one they made that stood out was the gordini reanault 5 turbo. Ya see the clio 172 cup stands out to its like renault williams stands out they r a limited breed of car as in not many built. So as i say in 8 to 10 years remember my words the clio cup will be making head lines. lol
To me any 172/182 can be made into a cup, all you need to do is strip out most of the creature comforts and bobs your uncle. But I have to agree with Blink172 - these cars are all mass produced - not really going to be classics. It would cost alot more however to turn a cup into a 172/182 after purchising the seats & cc. take a look at the 182 cup for example- just a cheeper version of the 182 (with cup packs). So theres probably going to be even more of them.

dunno about it being a classic, they are the only ones I actually like for the newer shape of Clio, in terms of aesthetics anyway, engines are all great in the 172s... but classic? I think not. Like its been said, mass produced and residuals are falling too quickly. Then take into account there will be a 182 Cup coming soon and the value will drop further... maybe if they had limited the numbers more and didnt keep bringing out the same car re-revised it could have been.
Personally Im not that sure the Vee will be a classic either, you can pick up the MK1 models pretty cheap now compared to the price they came out at... would still love one though, but they deffo need more power... why oh why did they not make them 300bhp like originally intended ill never know

yes... any car can be a classic if it is on the road for 25 years IIRC.
Is it going to be desirable? probably not...
If you have a very low milage one that is mint and standard that you have kept in a garage for 24 years, 11 months and 30 days, yes it might be worth something to a renault collector, because it is standard.
Scooby 22Bs are classics, because there were so few of them, Terzos arent classics, but they are limited editon. I dont think the williams will be a classic, it will be desirable to own, but not any more than an old mg. Think in terms of generations... My Uncles would probably go for an e-type, an mg or a triumph, I will probably go for something like an XKR, a TVR or something along those lines in 20 years when I am having my mid-life crisis.
Its simple, we are a very "clio" orientated club, its a bit like arguing with the MG owners club that the old MGs arent classics, as they arent desirable to us.
I think my cup is going to be lucky to last another 5 years, let alone 25 years, but, I will buy another one... and maybe leave it standard (but in what "standard" shape it will come in, i will leave to your imaginantion.
