  Rover 116, 106 1.1
Hi All,

Don't actually own a Clio yet, just about to come out of my time on a Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship and I'm hoping to educate myself before I start getting paid properly and can afford to buy one.

You probably won't hear off me for a while - I'll probably be making good use of the search function!

Thanks for 'avin me!

Phil

haha! cheers guys, I was expecting the abuse for the Rover, but not to be turned down so soon Madgit!

Yeah part of the reason I've got my heart set on a 172/182 is that they were a constant challenge in the 116, despite the luxury!
Had a Renault 5 Campus before, in great nick until someone decided to try and shave the side off it while overtaking me :S

Right up my street, your humour lol.
What the hell is a 116 tho? Did they do a "Metro" in a 1.6, or is it a conversion?
Why not the 1.8 VVC?

Cheers Bonxy!

Yeah I did the conversion with a mate, rover 100 1.1Mpi...fairly straight forward conversion to stick a 1.6 in. Ported head - matched to inlet & exhaust, lighter bottom pulley, mild cams...not so proud about this bit...bolted to the 1.1/1.4 gearbox which made it a heck of a lot of fun!!

In order to do the 1.8VVC properly I would have wanted the PG1 gearbox for strength, ratio choices and the option of an LSD - meaning hubs need changing, shafts blah blah blah money money money

I only built the car for a bit of fun, nice and cheap so kept it at a 1.6

And that was the short answer!!! There's a few guys round Tamworth with valver metros, have you not been toyed with?!! ;)
