The day when your handbrake fails..

Brought a new rear bumper and tail boot... Just need to collect it and pay for it too be sprayed :/ just glad it only hit a wall not another car or person...
 
thats a shitter but also lucky as said.. i never trust the handbrake on my cup if parking on an incline so i always leave it in gear also
 
Oops :( as long as its not creased the spare wheel well. I had a similair thing happen to my car but not as bad the other day and was told by the dent man that if I went though the insurance it would have been a write off but it was only a 4 inch dent and 2 parking dents on door!!!
 
That's why I'm angry at myself as I always put it in gear when I park.. And the 182 doesn't have a spare wheel apartment.. So only the bumper and boot was dented, lucky that the chassis wasn't hit as there is a gap between the bumper and metal work.. Thanks renault!
 
ouch!! As you said lucky it was a wall and not another car or worse a person.
Atleast its only easy to replace parts albeit costly. More of an inconvienence than anything and something you could do without.
Same thing happened to me with the wifes Metro Gti several years ago. Nothing parks outside our house 364 days of the year, but the day the handbrake fails a lorry happens to park up on the grass. The car went backwards down the drive, through the gates across the road and hit the back end of the lorry.

Is it just the tailgate and bumper, or is the boot floor creased too?
 
my vx220 rolled down a hill into my exs car... never again will i leave a car parked on a hill on the handbrake
 
It has creased the floor a little bit but will only need bashing down and straightening :-) turning out to be okay! Getting the boot and bumper Thursday and its all getting sprayed over the weekend, then fitted on Monday:) I'm having the rear wiper removed now as well :) and the motor... From now on I will always put it in gear!
 
My handbrake was one of the reasons why mine failed its MOT last week, 6% efficiency apparently! Good job I spent the ridiculous £80 on cables
 
My hand brake failed on my Escort. It rolled down the hill and just missed my neighbour,s Metro. It was about a foot of their porch too. I was lucky it hit a bush. You was lucky it only hit a wall. I always leave it in gear.
 
Did it just snap whilst you parked up?

Or did the brakes cool down causing the hand brake to slip?

Always leave it in gear, regardless of where it's parked.

Lucky it's just the boot and bumper replacing which I'm picking up tomorrow, and I have got a spare back light.. Getting sprayed on Friday and hopefully back mid next week! de wipering it as well :)
