Had a remap at RS Tuning

Car  172 Cup
Had my 172 cup remapped at RS Tuning on Wednesday night.

When I bought the car it had a Dyno Dynamics Rolling Road graph from KTEC racing noting 162bhp - totally standard car.

After purchasing the car I fitted a straight through de-cat, the car has no other mods at all (standard exhaust etc).

The first run at RS Tuning (also Dyno Dynamics) produced 166.5bhp - which either shows a big variance between the RRs or the de-cat added 4bhp? :)

After about 20minutes Paul had finished his mapped at the car produced 170bhp exactly, or 140.3bhp ATW.

The graph shows the differences before and after. I know the numbers haven't grown very much but I'm all about how something drives not what the end figure is.

The car feels so much more responsive to drive and generally has more 'get up' from any gear - I can't wait to get out on some dry roads with it.

Very happy with RS Tuning , would recommend them :)

figure seems low IMO but if it feels better on the road thats what counts.

Glad you like it Dave :)

Why ouch?

Because it's not making 10000000hp from a simple remap like some quote?

Lol. No I'd rather of paid someone half what you've charged this chap to upload an RSTuner cal file to my car, as that's all you've done pretty much? Would of had similar gains with that also.

Dave - If your happy with it then fair enough, a little research would of saved you a few quid though.

How's loading a GENERIC map the same as having a car mapped on the dyno? I did 6 files for this car before we came to this result with the chunk of midrange torque and disabled the second 02 sensor.

Is there really much point doing all that to add 3.5bhp though?

Genuine question btw, surely from your perspective if would be more profitable to just upload a generic map lol.

Its not all about the end dyno graph only showing gains at WOT, it's about how it picks up when you initially go for it, midrange cruising and how smooth it is.

It's very rare that i have put a final map from one car onto another car and it be the same.

So yes there is every point

You dont get repeat business and a good reputation from the amount of profit you make though

I've had generic maps before on previous cars and suffered because of it.

I trust Paul and would not have considered going elsewhere.

6 files in 20 minutes? You were with my car hours calibrating it Paul. Tbh it's not even the fact of whether you custom mapped/loaded a previous cal file from another car and tweeked it/etc or not, it's that for half he price he could of had similar results with ease. Even if it made two horsepower/torque less, you wouldn't notice that and would of saved himself a few quid.

Been on here long enough and seen/heard enough things with my own eyes and ears to know what goes on in the world of RenaultSport specialists and traders.

Yes 6 files in 20 minutes, they take seconds to load to the car and changes are quick to make in the fuel and spark maps.

What goes on in the world of the traders then?

I had a very similar experience to the OP. I made 172.8 before and 179 after. More mid range torque and it feels allot better than before. I know I could have bought a second hand RS tuner and got it done cheaper, then messed around getting it unlocked / buy the correct map ect ect. could I be arsed? No. Spend abit more, get a before and after and a dyno map.

I'm not pointing the finger or naming anyone, nor is this aimed at you Paul or your company.. But i have also seen and been on the receiving end of some of the moneymaking and botched things that go on with some traders/ specialists

There's always going to be things like that going on and we often laugh at some of the rubbish the specialists sell as the next best thing but what does that have to do with a customer posting positive feedback from one of our custom maps?

We have never been here to rip anyone off and pride ourselves in the work we do.

Now i remember why we didnt renew the trader forum straight away, oh well

There are a few of people on this forum who seem to have pent up anger and cannot wait for a chance to put someone down to make themselves feel a little better.

Great results BTW, I bet it drives lovely :)

Or, there are a lot of cynical old f4rts on this forum who are considerably more experienced in tuning 1*2's than the newbies ... ;)

Mind you, it is quite difficult working out which ones to listen to these days lol.

I can appreciate that and when there is a debate over "Generic vs custom mapping" then that is the time to voice said opinion based on all of that experience. Not when someone is telling people that he is happy with the results of his new remap. The intention is not to pass on knowledge - only pi$$ on his bonfire.

You can learn ALOT from people on this forum - just pointing out that some posts can seem a little spiteful.

The guy was aware of both options and chose RS Tuning, and was happy with the results. RS Tuning arnt deceiving anyone, don't know why people are asking him to justify what they do?

What the hell is going on in this thread! Im glad the Op is happy, surely thats the main thing?

Op was happy with result's job done, theres always someone has to have a go.

Paul does'nt need to justify what he does, i've not seen one thred where anyone says there car's worse after a custom map from Rs tuning only better.

Ive had work done by Paul and mapping my car wont go anywhere else.

cant believe people are slating somebody for paying for a remap, cant believe iv just renewed my membership for another year. this place is getting worse. only good thing about it is buying and selling parts in the marketplace, the rest is mostly morons talking s**t.

Ive had work done by paul before and rate him very highly and wouldnt hesitate recommending him. This will leave a bad taste im sure, shame really.

Would be wise to keep your opinions to yourself, don't go potentially reducing someone's future trade by making claims you can't prove! If the map has really improved the car and the customer is happy with the results and price he paid for the map then job done! I doubt any harm will be done by your comments anyway as most people will read this and think your a Pratt...

Think it boils down to the service you receive, the OP is happy with his results and more importantly the service RS tuning gave him. Yes he could have done it himself but wanted a trained expert to do it.

No I couldn't ;) There is no way I could have put the same map on my car as Paul has, and I don't have access to a rolling road.

I'm more than happy with the map, the service, the price I paid and any other aspect of my map. I'm glad others are so concerned about whether they feel I got value for money.

This is kind of like slating someone for eating out at a restaurant because they could have just made the meal at home.
