Had a shot of the megane 225!

  BMW 330d :)

I got to test drive the megane 225 when my car was in for servicing. I was impressed with the interior (leather seats etc) and space but i didnt find it much quicker than my 172 cup. This might have had something to do with the rain but i found the naturally aspirated lump in my car more responsive and it has less weight to shift around.

However i did like the abs brakes which inspired much more confidence when its tipping down, and they seemed more powerful!

Not a bad car but i think i would save a bit extra and get a used MK2 V6! MMMMMMMMM!!!

After my drive the guy invited me to the upcoming renaultsport day at the dealers, to test the full range! Brilliant!

funny the cup is 110kgs lighter than the 172 so that probably explains why the 225 felt much quicker than the 172 up top and easier to extract the power midrange. but 0-60 didnt feel as quick, didnt really matter as i felt that after 60 it would pull right past. handling was very vague though

Yeah i was expecting the megane to be a bit quicker. But it is more relaxing to drive, doesnt have the crashy suspension that my 172 cup has and doesnt need to be thrashed to get performance out of it. But thats exactly why i like my car, its rawness and responsiveness.

The megane didnt seem to have the same initial urge off the line either, maybe cos the engine wasnt fully warm. But when the boost came on u knew about it, felt like the 4,500+ vvt zone in my clio

Not bad if u wanted a bigger car but i think my clio handles better and is more fun to drive

Well it may be quicker but chris harris in autocar still prefers the 182. Alot of money for it too. The megane is much heavier and even if it is faster in a straight line i think the 172 cup, 182 cup would eat it round bends, as they are lighter and much more responsive

The 225 and tropies are nice cars dont get me wrong but they are bigger and softer i think than the clios.

The full trophy road test is in this weeks autocar.(Nice lookin car)

no as i said off the line was a bit dull a bit like it was designed to protect to gearbox/drive train and then it gives you the power smooth. with a bit of ECU tinkering it could be made into a formidable beastie.

it was a really lush car compared with the 172 in terms of refinement and space. problem i have with 172 when cruising doesnt have that sparkle of quality err... i think the word is ambience. still i dont want that 90% of the time, just the time when im transporting people and want them to think "hey cool car".

cant wait for the next Clio Sport Range hopefully have lots of the traights of its younger biggr bro, bit more space and quality.
