Had a teeny accident....

  Meggy cabriolet
And wrote off my 172 *sobs* and am now looking to buy a 182.

My local dealer have a black Trophy which they are finding out the details for, and a blue 05 plate one for £11,495...what should i be looking to pay for a decent 182 preferably with cup packs roughly a year or 2 old??

I think Matt posted some pics of your car the other day after the accident.

It won't be a black Trophy, they only come in Red.

  2008 Golf GTI Edition 30
182s go as low as £8,500, so make sure you hunt around.

What happened to the 172?

  Golf GTI 1.8T
was gonna say, black, I dont think so... about £9~10K I think good'erns go for. Any pics of the disaster??

Who's matt and how did he get pics of the car!?!?!?

I was driving too fast round a roundabout in the rain, lost the back end, fishtailed, span and hit the crash barrier on a dual carridgeway, it wasn't pretty, i cried for hours as i LOVE my car, it was the only yellow Mk1 172 i ever saw :(

Works for Specialist Renault Breakers. Can't have been many yellow 172s written off recently. Not with CS stickers anyway.

not bein funny but ive driven proper fast before around lots of roundabouts and never had the backend come out on me ?? sure its squeeled and backs slided but im always modulating the throttle if it leaps a bit i back off quickly but smoothly.

how the hell did you do it?

This was a huge roundabout as it's near the docks, it was pissing it down with rain, I accelerated too hard to get past a car and lost it, thats all I remember. Although the bloke behind me said I had it under control until I put the brakes on and it span, it wasn't nice, never ever wanna do it again.

  Golf GTI 1.8T
wet road, oily surface, can happen to the best of drivers or cars.
most cases, more acceleration is better than panic brakeing, but that cant be helped unless your trained really.

  Meggy cabriolet
I don't remember it happening at all, I just remember feeling a weird sense of calm even though I knew it was gonna hurt and there was bugger all I could do about it! Because I have to drive a lot of different cars for my job, they've organised for someone to teach me what to do if it happens again...I swear it's only cos i'm a girl..

  Golf GTI 1.8T
doubt it was, clios have a crap rear end I swear. Mine slides in the slightest bits of wet, mainly because of the crap tyres but still, It must just be too light. course would be good, i'd like to do one of them

Never brake going into a bend or during a bend in a 172/182:nono:

  Golf GTI 1.8T
or in any car or bike. but as she said it started from accelerating to hard, lost traction, then hit the brakes and it all went wrong!

well you can actually, jus in moderation tho...I always left foot brake in mine mid corner, keeps to get the nose into the bend.

  Meggy cabriolet
Well I have learnt a lesson, I will not be braking and cornering in my new car, tho if it's a 182, surely thats gonna handle better!?

Ah at least there's someone else that knows how to do it. lol.

Sorry to hear about the write-off...

as for braking during turn... well it catches us out sometimes:

But, a gradual press of the pedal is ok mid-coner as long as you're ready to catch it.

So... a 182 next? Not tempted to wait for the new bigger, heavier RS next summer?

Blimey! At least I managed to avoid all walls....was that you who did that??

I personally don't like the look of the new clio and the 182 prices will drop to something more affordable soon and there aren't a huge amount of them around this area so it will still be a bit different.

Err... me? Ahem... no comment.

You're right though - 182 prices are dropping, so there's a lot of money to be saved!

Lol! You men, never like admitting that you have accidents too.
I was told many times by all the men here that if it was them driving it would never have happened...hmmmmm

Hehe...

It was my first high-mileage car... Diesel Toyota Avensis.

I had new tyres put-on the front earlier that day... and decided to go for a drive (after playing metropolis street racer on the dreamcast).

I bit of ice, combined with shiny new tyres... sprited driving... and a huge wack of brakes... I missed the junction by a fair few metres wouldn't you say?!

DoH!!

PS Men are never wrong... we're always right, and it's never our fault!

So, GR... What colour are you thinking of... Still have your heart-set on black?

Yeah, i would say you missed, but only by a weeny bit...lol!

Men, always right?! you keep telling yourself that, us women let you think that your always right, just to keep you quiet!

I would really love an acid yellow 182, or inferno, i like bright colours that get you noticed, theres not much about so i'm prob gonna have to get black/silver

Yeah, they have a racing blue one, but I'm unsure, theres a yellow one for sale on autotrader but it's quite a way from me and it's bloody expensive. I saw an Inferno one the other day for the first time and fell in love with it, though you do see pics of it where it looks more red than orange
