Had the MOT today.

right so i had my cambelt done a few weeks back, now the garage that did it said i needed a new wheel bearing (front right). Ive had a noise which i can only describe as a wheel bearing, basically, it sounds like rushing wind at 50mph, only more of a constant sound, and well different. cant really describe it any other way.

my mot today ment i had to get a problem with the antiroll bar sorted, it was leaking apparantly. now the noise is still there. and its pissing me off.

Any ideas ? apparantly its a common problem in clios, but i thought he was talking s**t. Im thinking new wheel bearing, and im close to asking a friend to take a look at it to see if i need a new one or not. because ive had it now.

anti roll bars dont leak, and noisy wheel bearings are an MOT fail, so that counts out that its a wheel bearing.
does the noise go away if you dip the clutch?

Your correct they are a fail, the book states "sounds harsh or grating", it is possible as you can only spin a wheel so fast by hand that the tester didnt hear it if there was other noise in the garage! i have spun wheels on cars i have serviced, they sound ok, then you go on test drive and the howl like a banshee! if when your driving you turn from side to side slightly does this noise go away??

Also anti roll bars dont leak!!

turning - no. seems to be a 40mph+ problem.

roll bar - mot cert states (or the receipt rarther) that it was replaced. Dunno where i got the word leaked from tbh.

dipping clutch - no, still there.

I thought the testers grabbed hold of the top and bottom of the tyre and pushed and pulled to feel for play in the bearing, then grab tyre 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and rock to find free play in steering? They usually use a pry bar to check excess movement in the bushes while it's up there.

Not sure on a clio but iirc an anti roll bar is just a bar to stiffen up the suspension, the bushes can go or they rot or the bar can get bent, I'd also be very suprised if it has got fluid in it tbh.. Did he mean cv gaitor, they can split and leak?

no not off the top of my head. I didnt think it had fluid in it, and i knew it was somehting to do with the suspention. If the CV split, or had a leak, when fixing it would loads white watery s**t go everywhere ? I keep ym engine bay cleanand now its covered in shitty white marks.
