hard drive DVD players

Car  Vecta 2.2i SRI 55
Does anyone know knowledge or own a Hard drive dvd player?

The question is : if i go down to my local dvd rental shop and rent a dvd movie then put it into my dvd player can i copy it straight onto the hard drive? or onto another dvd?

Or do i need some kind of special software or codes?

Your thoughts pls

Macrovision will prevent you doing that by default. Saying that there's no doubt a way around that somehow.

I have an Archos480, great little gadgy.
You can record DVD's onto it but can't be watched on any other device because
of Macrovision.

I'd still recommend one to anyone
