Has any1 gone from a 172 to a m3 evo

  Astra SRI/ Hornet
Was wondering if any1 had swapped there 172 for a m3 evo the mid 90's version. If ya thought it was a good move or a bad 1.

i went from an evo m3 to a clio 172 cup - my life is so much easy - i cudnt even get any sleep as each night sumthing wud get nicked, first mirrors, front bumber , then sideskirts, wat a pain...

Went from 182 to Z3M to 172 Cup ... M3 is sooo fast compared, you need to be able to drive to enjoy them properly imho - i mean 'properly' drive as well ;) it will go sideways at any opportunity in the wet, even in a straight line, & it will try to kill you most days.

They are immense tbh. On long journeys, even mpg is ok lol, ie 30 odd. For the normal mortal though, a Cup will kill one on a b-road, purely as the M3 would have spat you into the hedge ...

Overall though, i prefered both my clios, so much cheaper to run for the same level of 'fun' :)

Daniel went from a 172 to an evo i think ... then back to a clio

Not done the switch, but I'd go for a pre-evo m3. Less likely to have vanos issues, and they normally make close to book power, the evo's are usually under book.

I want a car like what you just said. LOL a challenge, and I can drive abit don't mind going sideways either, basically it's like my old 205 gti but alot faster. LOL

I think there still a good car. Some on ph look like dogs though. However there arent many cars out there with 321bhp for under 5k

  Clio 172
I had a clio 172 cup went to bmw m3evo was ok then it got stolen 2weeks after,so brought another 172 and can leave it anywhere!

Mine never had the wood interior (apart from the handbrake) stupid germans.

Make sure the Vanos is quiet, the ABS light isn't on, and the brakes and tyres are good. Also a FBMWSH is a must (or specialist).

If you tick all the boxes, you'll be fine! :) Getting quite excited for you actually!!

Proper proper cars!!

was fast but still not as fun as the clio 172cup, thats was mine back in 2006 - had to spray the strips so they wont it nicked

Yeah seen 1 on piston heads in estoral blue, black leather full history with reciepts and had just had new vanos put in costing 2600 quid. 1 bill I don't want to be paying. LOL

My driving's fine, Ask yer mum

How much are you wanting to spend mate? Just been spying a few on pistonheads and they're pretty cheap now!!

I'm gonna try a straight swap at first but willing to put abit of money aswell, don't wanna rush and end up with a dog.

100% Accurate mate.

I am in no way shape or form a 'good' driver. Therefore I have more fun in my little Clio screwing the nuts off it with its predictable handling than I had in my stupidly overpowered rwd M3 that wanted to just go round and round and round.

  Astra SRI/ Hornet
Well maybe a driving course would be a good idea so I don't end up brown bread. LOL does any1 know if there are any desirable models to look out for or colours?

Ditto lol. Z3M was even more unpredictable tbh, stupidly short chassis with the cart suspension from the E30 on the rear end =

Colours wise, id have to have either estoril blue or techno violet with silver leather

Get on www.e36coupe.com for as much info as you will ever need.

Red is rare as rocking horse poo and commands a premium.

My silver one just looked like a 318 I hated that about it.

Personally speaking though, i'd buy a car on mechanical condition rather than colour or options.

You got to remember, this is an old supercar we're talking about. You'll need deep pockets (£250 a set of rear tyres, £300 front discs and pads....) so if it was me, i'd be buying one for its history and condition rather than colour.

Yeah love that techo violet, think the estoril blue is abit common. Cheers for the link. I can feel the excitement and the fear growing.

First 2 on the ph link are awesome might enquire about the blue1 this weekend, see if he fancies a 172 cup, don't ask ya don't get.

Saloon Evo has wood burr interior. GANGSTER imo! Rare spec saloon cosmos black/black leather, no spoiler, contour M alloys (best 4dr alloys) only 20 made in this exact spec iirc.
