Has the 172 cup got a wider track??

  6/468 17poo
Really thinking about getting a mk1 172 as the bonds in the bank has just matured, just wanted to know if the mk1 172 has the same track width as a mk2 172 and a cup or has just the cup got slightly wider track?

Am i right in thinking a mk1 172 will handle the mutts on coilovers better than a cup on just uprated shocks and springs?? (probly a dumb question)

Cheers people, Ryan

Cup defo has a wider track than a Mk2 ph 2 172, and I think that's the same for the ph1.

^^ yep, so if you have the cup Turinis on your FF 172 like me, you have the cup track. ;)

The 172 Cup gains it's wider track due to the different offset on the Turinis.

Thought it was different 20mm wider at the front and 10 at the back...than the normal 172..or something like that..

Not sure about that, but I know the wheels were used to increase the track rather than hub/wishbone changes.

not true,
172 CUP has wider track and lower ofset than a mk2 172.

Not sure on 172mk1, but I believe it is wider than mk2 too.

I was right about the wheels adding some of the extra width but wasn't sure about the other differences.

ok cool cheers people so the mk1 172 is the best looking and the best handling or have i gone too far?

is there any other major differences between the mk1 and mk2 except from aesthetics?

cool well ill stick with you then fred, also ive got a set of superlegs 15's offset of 38, pcd 4*100 will these be the same except smaller than the cup wheels turinis as in track?

because basically i want a mk1 on coilovers decked but to handle well on 15's like the cup racers this is possible with them wheels isnt it??

You've gone too far, lol.

Each to their own mate, I prefer the PH2 shape miles over the PH1 shape; and the interior looks more up to date, imo.

I wasn't keen on the way the ph1 handled either... but if your putting coilovers on it it should be sweet. Oh and I preffered the gear ratios in the mk2. Nowt between them really, although a coiloverd ph1 should be better due to it's light weight.

Mechanical differences were Gear ratios, spring and damper rates, wheel size erm... think that's it. Oh and they made it look nicer. ;)

haha, i do like the mk2s eg, the rear bumper and the rear lights and i no what you mean about the interior, but i will change these accordingly as i havent got 6-7k for a mk2!

They've both got the renaultsport seats havent they?

So if i change the suspension and wheels i should have a far quicker car than a mk2, lol im excited!

Aren't the gear ratios shorter in the ph1 compared to the ph2?
Or am I talkin outta my arse? lol

5th not bad, its just really long. if you sat at 70 in 5th its the same as the mrk2. or ther abouts

Correct.

ph1 is quicker to sixty by a few points, but ph2 has pulled gap back by 100. On paper anyway.

In reality is anyones guess. lol.

The Mk1 interiors are blue renaultsport seats with coloured stitching

The mk2's have grey and black interiors with grey renaultsport stitching

The Mk2 interiors are a class above the Mk1's plus the finishes last better to everyday wear and tare

Buy a PH1 and get the PH2 rear bumper, clusters and interior. Then you have the best of both worlds (and by interior i mean the dash as well, coz a ph1 looks out of date now).
