Head unit replacement in a sport 172

HI guys, Ive been looking at changing the stereo in my Clio sport 172 Mk2. Ive found a site on the net that sells adapters so that my steering wheel controls and the time/temprature panel will still work.

2 questions: - do they work, and how hard are they to fit.

Yes they work, not to difficult to fit. The adaptor should come with instructions, or there should be a guide on the home page.

The only thing i find is that the main display doesnt show the MP3 tag on it, otherwise its perfect

Depends on budget, people on here advise against Sony but ive had mine a for ages and sounds/works perfectly.

I think it depends on whethre you going to build a huge system, if you are go for something like an alpine MP3 player. Just depends on what you can stretch too

Cool thanks Blink.

Im not planning to do loads. I just want to change the head unit and possibly replace the speakers in the doors at most. I want to go to MP3s as Im sick of carrying loads of CDs around in the car.

If I got the right system could I burn the tracks as Data onto the CD and play them?

Yup, most CDs hold about 10 albums worth of music ive found, Much better than carting them around, and MP3 players are dirt cheap these days

Make sure whatever H/U you decide on is compatible with the adaptors

You need twoparts, see http://www.caraudiodirect.co.ukwww.caraudiodirect.co.uk and they can sort you out

Ive done it with my alpine and its great works a treat :)

Ive got a sony m1000tf which is an mp3 player and has a tft screen, they dont cost that much any more. only prob is you then have to change to cd changer as well. Only prob I had fitting the head unit was trying to fit all the wires in the dash.

would advise on getting a player that plays dvd discs in mp3 format. have a disc next to me for my kenwood headunit with near on 2000 songs @ 192kb/s and they sound perfect.

try http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/ they have some good deals. even better if ya go in the shop.

the adaaptor only fit sony steros as thats wot reno sell also it is £60 well mine was with discount i got a sony mp3 and sony front speaker in mine. much better than standered, easy to fit and wire just plug and play.

i got one of them adaptors for my kenwood and then took it back after seeing the instructions. the whole top of the dash board had to be removed. they could have told me this before i tryed to fit the thing.

head unit recommendations (at a sensible price)

alpine
pioneer; or
becker

id personalyl choose becker over the other 2 as the sound quality is slightly superior for a similar price (£300 head units)

You dont have to remove the whole dash but as I said, it is a bit of a pain in the arse making everything fit.

on mine i had to get to the back of the display to fit the connection on. which ment taking of the top of the dash board. rattles as it is last thing i wanted to do was take that apart. should have seen me trying to get all the wires in that hole for my dvd head unit. dont know how the hell i got them all in their. the control box wires on their own are about an inch thick lol

not looking forward to the day i take it all out.
