Headlight issue :(

My 1.2 16v dynamique has just started to develop a problem with the drivers side headlight. What I originally thought was the bulb blowing, it isn't. I changed it for a bulb that works and that still didn't work, UNTIL, you tapped the metal end of the bulb (side that connects into headlight) on another metal part of the car. It would then stay on until moved into the position it should be in, then it'd go off. Halfrauds bloke said it was just the bulb and a new one would fix it, but I think it's something more? Maybe an earthing issue?
What're people's opinions? And how do I fix it? It's highly annoying.
Many thanks!

Any idea how I can fix this? Is it worth taking the bolt out where it's earthed, cleaning it all up and then roughing it up with sandpaper and putting back together? Would that help maybe?

It's worth a try mate. Not entirely sure on the layout of the clio wiring but it does sound like an earthing fault.

Well I've taken it apart, all of it looked quite rusty but more importantly had a lot of corrosion and muck all over it. I've sanded the bolt and the top and bottom of the lug which both look new now. Gently sprayed both with wd40 to clean off any crap and protect from rust in the future (assuming this fixes it) , and am now about to sand the connection to the car. Hoping this works!

So this is the conclusion of the evenings events.

Not getting my hopes up as I did have to put the bulb into the headlight whilst it was ON for it to work. Took It for a drive down some horrible roads though and it has stayed on the whole time so I may have fixed it. Also turned it on and off alot and it hasn't turned itself off. All in all, quite happy I guess :) I have headlights again!
