My mate has a problem with his drivers side headlight. He bought some uprated sidelight bulbs and when fitting them, he removed the rubber cap on the back of the unit. Because he had a bit of trouble trying to fit his hand behind the back of the unit, he was unable to change the bulbs and "forgot" to put the rubber cap back on. So... it rained and this light started to flicker. It is now broken and doesn't come on at all. We went to Renault and a local garage who deal with Renault's and they said it could be one of two things. It could either be a bulb that will need replacing (approx. £110 from Renault) or a new headlight as the pack on the back of the unit may be faulty. The new headlight was coming back at around £500 + fitting. Of course we were both a little stunned.
The car's a '53 172 so he has the Xenon headlights. Can anybody shed some light on this or know anywhere where headlights/bulbs may be cheaper?
