Headunit super hot!

  Jap Box
Well today I noticed that the headunit was playing quieter and it has lost loads of quality all of a sudden and there as a small burning smell.

So when I parked I pulled it out and felt the back and it burnt my fingers. It was honestly too hot to touch for even a second.

Im assuming it was overheating due to over amplifying? I had it rather loud through the day banging out dubstep.

Also for the rear speakers ive got them connected up to the front speaker connection in the back of the clio's speaker connector block, because it was easier, would this cause it?

The last headunit did get rather hot in the car thinking about it, and that had since died.

Could the car be sending too much to the live wire which is in turn over powering it and burning them all out?

Thanks

Yes to the running rears on fronts. Will be causing you to be running at 2ohm, overheating the onboard amp, you might be lucky if you d/c the rear speaker cabling youve wedged in the amp may be ok but i highly doubt it

Ah good :)

What can I use to power them then :S tried getting some RCA inputs for them to plug into the rear pre-out on the headunit but I could never find any :( and halfords were no help.

Amp them up? RCA to amp, amp to speakers.

Will be getting an amp on Friday, 900w Fli one. Hopefully fix the problem :)

The headunit is fine itself, I think I stopped it just before the amp was going to go.

You need to amp them. You can't just double up on speakers like that....

Yeah I have now realised this and have got an amp on its way :)

can i just say what are you running of the standard rears?

There are no standard rears, not even the speaker cable is there. Plan was to wire them into that section but when looking there was no wire there to put into so I had to run the wires from the back through to behind the dash and up into the headunit.

What RCA leads can I buy so I can wire the speakers directly into the headunit? The headunit has 3 pre-outs, being:

Rear, Front, Sub

Each has a red and white/black RCA port there, so what would I need to do to simply plug the speaker wire straight into there?

  soon to be 182 ;)
you should still be able to put wires into the head unit to run rear speakers of the connector blocks without touching the front speakers but amping them would be best

Yeah that was the aim, I just have no idea what plugs I would need to do this, rather not amp the front speakers as thats too much hassle really.

amp the rear speakers then, that would be what i would do, then using the other bit of the amp for a sub :)

amping them just as simple as plugging the speaker wire into the port and then tightening it up?

yeah im getting a sub and amp off someone, £70 for 15" audiobahn competition sub and the amp too :D

yeah simple as that, there are different ways of wiring but im no expert on this as mine is all through stock wiring

It's not as simple as that I'm afraid.....

Here's what you need to do.

And no, there is now way of using the RCA's outputs to run speakers without an amp.

You also dong want to amp the rear speakers and not the fronts, it will sound s**t and you'll have to buy a Burberry cap to wear when you're driving.

Ahh I get you now, simply RCA from the rear of the headunit to the amp, just like I had the old sub wired in basically then.

Not really wanting to go to the hassle of amping up the front ones separate too, and it hardly makes much noticeable difference to me really sound wise.
