Dj Annihilation

Hi People

Think I am going to move forward with the speaker/h/unit upgrade on the 172. Dont think I am going to go as far as the whole sub/amp set-up, done all that before lol...feeling a more suttle vibe now! - the tinnitus is kicking in being a Dj etc!

It seems there are mixed responses in regards to taking the dash off to deal with the tweets. Some people say it takes hours some its easy! - not sure which method to use to be fair. I am not car tech so dont want to go damaging anything!

I am going to go with the pioneers for the front then some others for the back, not too worried about these as they wont really be as effective anyway.

Now talking of head units, I have heard that you really need one to get a good result. Do I need any type of facia surround as I would be taking the standard out? I know my old Fiesta Zetec needed a surround thing which was crap lol....Are they direct swap with the cage that comes with the new unit?

Also I hear many mixed results for choice of head unit, I did like the sony brand but thinking more pioneer now. Not too bothered about keeping the dash display but if I do I hear that I need a pioneer with the p bus so for example [FONT=&quot]DEH P3100UB.

Do I need to buy anything else with that or is it a direct fit to get the display? Also are there any reccomendations as the above to me doesnt seem like a fantastic unit....then I guess I cant say much as I dont know how it sounds!.

Look forward to your feedback people.

Cheers!

Louis

For removing the dash, see Fubar's Guides, you can't go wrong when following that.
You can get them out without removing the dash, but its easier to remove it so you can see what your doing.

In the Clio you don't need any facia surrounds, or wiring harnesses. You simply pull out the old headunit, put in the cage that comes with your new headunit and slide your new headunit in.

I really like the Pioneer and Alpine range of headunits personally, just got a more quality look to them!

Re. Stalk controls/screen display you'll need extra connectors to get these to work.

does it look that bad not having the display look oem when the unit is live ?

Headunit is a straight swap :)

As said for stalk controls you need the correct adapter if your new headunit supports it.

I myself like the Sony ones, got a CDX-GT 620U myself and it looks great and has a load of great features, you can basically tune every single aspect of the sound, and even hass bass volume if you were to add a sub at a later date.

As for the display unit, it will still work and show the time, but it just won't show the radio station name or track names etc. Never bothered me in the slightest really.

Does it still display the temp?

No idea on that one as mine never has temp to begin, pretty sure it will though as only the cable going into the radio won't be plugged in anymore, could give it a test by unplugging current HU and seeing if it still shows.

Make sure you have radio code though just incase yours needs it when plugged back in.

yea luckily got that one lol.....think im just gonna go for it lol

thats interesting mate, i mite just buy my head unit then lol!....is there a massive sound difference? i find the current speakers disort etc and dont sound great....

also if i dont get my dash to work with it, i take it my sterring wheel stalk wont work either?

Definately get headunit first and see how much difference there is :)

I know when I swapped headunits the Sony one didnt distort speakers as badly as the stock one did at high volume, aslong as I turned the bass levels down slightly.

No idea on difference with aftermarket speakers though, crashed the car before I had time to change them, will be giving them a go in the current clio though :)

Most likely the stalk wont work no, you can try get a stalk adapter, usually about £10-£20 again I didn't see the point as my HU came with a remote anyway.

oh right sorry mate....just ur username made me think u cud be that was all, thanks for ur help tho buddy, good knowledge :)
