Hello, a friends poorly 172, noise from the rear!

As above, a friend of mine has a 52 plate 172 (ph2) its in a sorry state. Not washed, needs a fare bit of work but I have offered to take on the challenge as a fellow Renaultsport owner. His has a rumbling sound at 30mph onwards from the rear. My thoughts are wheel bearings?

Is this a common fault and if so how easy are they to change?

Sounds like bearings to me. I had exactly same, got noisier the faster I went, particularly at certain speeds. Just had bearing replaced (yesterday) and its a different car, you have just got to figure out which side needs doing...

just get the k tec uprated rear disc set get them with them good reason to get them done

So are the bearings in the rear disc?!?

Anyone one change them, have an "Idiots guide"?

easy to change mate, Just take the centre bolt off the axle, you may need a disc puller (or if your me use a hammer) to get the old ones off.

Get Renault stock discs they're more than sufficient, and come with the bearings pressed in, very common fault rear wheel bearings.

Yep replace the rear discs, the renault ones are the best to get as they come complete with bearings and abs rings. There not cheap though, GDI is the cheapest place i've found them at £150. It'd be less if you were a member and had the cliosport discount.

how much less, I may get him to join, I can't with the R26

Its only a fiver , would guess there about £125 with the discount. Don't know for sure though.
