Hello & a winter warning

  172 Cup
Hi there everyone. I've been around here for a while but not posted, great forums full of useful info so thanks for that. I've had my Mk2 03 172 Cup for nearly a year now so thought I was about time I posted :) I'm in Bristol, seen a few 172's/Cups around but none with Cliosport badges yet.

A quick winter warning:
1. Toyo Proxies might be great in the dry and passable in the wet, but they are not good winter tyres! Managed to have a nice low speed bump in works snow covered car park this morning. I turned in at about 5mph, nothing happened, turned harder and the back came round. I was past the point of no return so hit the brakes and a minor bumper to bumper impact. No damage that I have spotted yet, dammit I feel like a fool! Off to put some Goodyear GSD3's on later I think!
2. When your car is all iced up in the morning, before you start you engine to warm it up a bit make sure you didn't leave your wipers on the night before! Wipers unclip pretty well, no damage and they plug right back in OK, although I did have to keep returning to the house to warm my hands up first ;)

toyo proxies from my experience get really sticky and hot, so much so that when youve been on a run they feel really soft. mine wore out really quickly also there a really bad winter tyre, yet people rate them ??? i think people on vote on ultimate performance rather than all round ability.

proxies on a cup in winter is asking for trouble

i have them, and they arent good in the ice either.

tbh i cant see any normal road tyres being any good in the ice/snow.

just learn to drive to compensate for the conditions :)

and welcome :)

true but proxies are particulary bad in these types of conditions

Welcome to the club. Have to agree proxies are s**t unless its dry but either way it's sketchy as fook out on the roads at the moment so drive like a shirtlifter and you're less likely to have a bump.

hello mate, i'm in bristol too!
This morning, in a sleepy daze, i dove to the end of my road........ and then about 5yards more!! luckily there was nothing coming!

  BMW M3 - For Sale!
they may be budget tyres, but my Falken ZE512's are great! theyve lasted ages and i've had no problems with handling at all!

gripping like a mo'fo all the way

  106 GTi
Welcome to CS - After driving my old 205 Gti with Toyos Proxes in the snow the main problem is the angled treads to cut through water work well into cutting into the snow and filling up solid and compact with snow that wont fall out driving, making very good slicks. Tyres with smaller thread block patterns work much better.

hiya!

on the snow note get some snow wheels and tyres - 125/125 dimension and 12inch wheels! that ought to do the job!

  Cupped 182 with Milltek
Just this morning ordered a set of Goodyear Ultragrip GW-3 winter tyres from mytyres.co.uk to fit my 182. 205-45-16 £331 for a set they get a lot of very good reviews, but also good performance tyre with good grip in snow and ice but also rated to 130mph and good in the dry,not as good as dedicated tyre for summer like the Exalto 2 but for the winter months, sounds good. Will post once I get back from the states and find out myself!

ooo...

My GSD's were fine this morning!

My dad couldn't get his merc off his drive this morning (and he's running a Classic with hige profile tyres and soft suspension).
