Hello everyone, new member here :) Help !

Righty ho, my name is Dean, currently driving 2003 Corsa sxi to build up my insurance no claims as im only 19 and insurance is a killer :(

Right, I love 172s and 182s and im dieing to get one but insurance will kill me at the moment so im going to have to wait till im 21. What i want to ask is in roughly 2 years time what sort of price will 2001/2003 clios be going for in your opinion.

Also how realiable are 172s ? any common faults with them?

What sort of insurance quotes are you 21 year olds getting for these 172s?

Costs of running this car high?

Also does anyone have more INTERIOR pictures of the 172 that would be great!

Cheers for helping out this 172 WANNABE :)

  Cup 172

Im guessing that 2001/2003 172s will be worth 5-8 grand depending upon condition/mileage etc. Running costs are very good given the performance of these cars, i.e. 12k/2 yr service intervals and 35+mpg easy. Service about £160-£200 depending upon where you go.

I think they are insurance group 16 so it could be costly for 21 year olds £750-£1000

Reliability is a grey area I think. I think most people are pleased with reliability and put up with occasional niggles/rattles/faults, but as with most forums not many people post saying their car is totally reliable, its usually when something has gone wrong and they need help.

Known problems would seem to be the 4000rpm rattle from the centre section of the exhaust, and a knocking from the suspension when wheelspinning away from the lights!

Hope this helps and welcome to the board!

Hi Dean,

Welcome, tried getting insured on a 172 myself at 19 but couldnt so spunked a load of money on a Mini Cooper instead. Hopefully well be in the same boat when were both 21.. :)

There are a few common problem but after 2yrs of ownership most of them are fixed underwarently. They rattle a bit but owners kep comming back that how good they are.

When i was 21 I looked at getting one £1400~£1700 they wanted but I do ~20k/yr 1 yrs NCB, one claim and 1 yrs driving experiance (its almost 2).

Running costs arnt to bad MPG depends on how you drive but its usualy close the the 1.2 models as there more efficient. Services are cheap (£150~£250) at Renault and the big 72k one can be done better an cheaper at other places.

Cheers for the replies guys! Its not that bad insurance when your 21 then as PJVTS said £825 is very very reasonable. My dad was going to get the mk2 172 when they 1st came out, wish he did as ill be nicking that off him when i turn 21 :)

Yea all ive heard is good from people about 172s and im falling in love with them, it will be well worth the wait ( only 2 more years :))

Oh well back to the trusty old corsa to build up my NCBs :)

Might be worth ringing up and seeing what you get quoted at the moment for a 172. You might be suprised at how littl extra it is if you pay a lot anyway.

In 2 yrs time though the new Clio will be out so prices will drop more.

Who are you insured with? Is that under a parents name? cause i am 21 1years ncb, no points, no accidents, and the cheapest i can get is around £1700

Im 21, no NCB, held licence for 4 years and mine is £1470, told them Id be doing about 12k a year.

It will go up and down depending on how many miles you tell them and your postcode
