Hello..

Ive been looking at this site for a while now.......Im thinking about getting a

mk2 172

or mk2 172 cup what are the difference between these car???

and from what ive been reading about the 172.

they dont seen to be very reliable, with engine knock and other breakdown, and other stuff...how relialbe has your 172 been...and there seem to be many 172 for sale with low mileage...is this because they are now a very good car to have alot of mileage on...

im hoping to get one around oct times,so i have no real rush at the moment.....

are they a better car then a mg zr 160 or a 206 gti...i no it faster then both these car...but reliable mean alot to me.I do about 10,000 miles a year..but i really want the mk 2 172 would love the 182 but i dont think that will come to my price range..which will be £8500

have to say the web site is really good,

Many thanks Ian

Very few 172s have major mechanical issues.

Most issues are down to trim and build, ive done 22k in my 182.

Ive had a few issues with the exhaust and trim issues. but most of them are sorted now.

cup only comes in blue or silver, most have no aircon fitted although a few later ones might. cups do not have xenon lights, do not have a rain sensor for the wipers or a light sensor for the headlights. The cup comes with multispoke turini alloys the 172 comes with 5 spokes. the cup does not have abs nor leather/alcantara seats, the rear seat is not a 40/60 split on the cup and it doesnt have headrests in the rear. the cup has wider track due to the wheels and slight suspension revisions. also the cup has thinner glass and less sound deadening.

totally reliable, i had my 172 for 27,000 miles with no problems, they can suffer from a few trim, minor niggles but most tend to be mechanically sound.

im hoping to get one around oct times,so i have no real rush at the moment.....

yes, but you dont drive it do you Jill. How many times has that car been out of third?

;-)

Cup is a lot more involving drive, but, you need to be able to drive to get the most out of it IMO. 172 is more luxury, leather, aircon (tho some late cups have climate) You should be able to pick up a late, low milage cup with 2 years warranty left for £8000
