Help - 182 problems!

  Clio 182
Need help with my 182 which I've owned for 6 years now. It's done 74k miles (2005 plate) most of them I've done myself. I gets a good run on A roads every day and gets driven around 20+ miles a day.

It's been back and forth to the garage in the past month to sort out ongoing problems all related to the engine management diagnostic problems. It started with what I thought was a misfire and not running on all cylinders, also engine management light on, and running rich. This is the work carried out so far:

- downstream O2 (lamda) sensor
- upstream O2 sensor
- coil pack

However, just when I thought the problem had been fixed the light has reappeared and is now flashing intermittently....I'm taking it back to the garage and they'll run diagnostics again, but I wondered if anyone here recognised the problems??

Really would appreciate your help and any support!

Many thanks
Chris

I had a similar problem with my R26. Turned out to be one of the injectors. I swapped them all out for piece of mind and the flashing engine management light went away for good.

Thanks guys, think it could be sparks or injectors. Had it serviced in January so I'd be surprised if it's the sparks but who knows now!!

Think Southampton may be a little too far, I'm worried about driving it to the end of the road at the moment :(

I had the exact same problem with the engine light coming on - the tailpipes getting all sooty and a noticeably bad mpg given that I was doing the same work commute.

Took it to Reno who diagnosed the upstream sensor as being to blame. Got the usual £high-price to replace it and asked the Birchdown lads if they could sort. They did, at a much better price and both the light went out and the problem got resolved.

As you say, it's likely to be something else now. Did the plugs definitely get replaced in January??

Thanks Darren, sounds identical although still returning around 35mpg which is average.

Had the up and downstream sensors replaced which I thought would cure it, but it appears there could've been damage done to the sparks whilst the problem was there.

Thanks for the advice, will get the garage to check tomorrow. Credit card at the ready!
