Help and advice please 182 turns over but won't start!

  182ff
Only bought the car 2 days ago, yesterday a couple of time when driving it the service and abs warning lights flashed up along with another light (happened so quickly I didn't see what the other lights was).

Anyway start the car this morning all seems fine, maybe the battery is a bit sluggish but as I have only had the car 2 days it could be normal. So reverse out of the drive and then pull away and the car stops as I am pulling away almost as if I have stalled it?

Try to restart and the car turns over for 3ish seconds and then stops to turn over. The immobiliser light doesn't go of either?
Sometimes it doesn't turn over at all!
I only have one key for the car?

Any help would be greatly appriciated!

I would get a voltmeter on the battery if you can jump start it and it runs test the alternator the battery should be about 12v think the alternator should kick out about 13/14

In the engine bay one is for fuel pump and one is the fan so ive been told so swap them and see if it helps

When you turn the key to the first position the fuel pump should allways prime and on cars like the Clio you should hear the fuel pump switch on if it doesn't your car will not start

I had something similar to this a few months ago on mine.... Cleared the fault codes with the OBD reader and it fired straight up!!

Right not having much luck with this, can't hear the fuel pump prime but not 100% sure if I am swapping the correct relay as they are different on the 182 to the ones on the 172, can anyone point to the correct ones to swap over?

The immobiliser light does not go out when the key is turned in the ignition, I have tried an ecu reset buy disconnecting the battery etc but still no luck.

I just find it strange that the car started fine then stalled?

As the immobiliser light does not go out does that confirm the problem is there?

I haven't got an obd reader would it be worth getting one if so which one?

Any other suggestions or advice would be great before I put a match to the car!

Cheers

If you could borrow an obd reader it may give you a clue as to what's going on. When I had to clear the faults on mine my immobiliser light was staying on too. Apparently it stays on when there is a problem with the ecu initialisation as well as an immobiliser problem.

The relays I was on about should be small black and next to each other, sound's like your immobilizer is kicking in, it could of started then stalled because of fuel already in the fuel line, I'm was doing this and it was down to boot not shut, then doing it because the black relay for the fuel pump had got damp and the metal points on the relay had oxidized and done green I just rubbed them down and used some wd40

  Dodgy one
Sit in the car with the doors closed, key in ignition and press the lock button on the key a few times to see if its recognising the key.

Failing that try your spare key to see if your light goes out, theyre a bit fragile if the last owner liked to chuck his keys on the worktop like i do it could have disturbed the transponder in the key fob

It wouldn't be the keys. If there was a key problem the light would flash fast, if it's solid then that says that the key has been recognised but there is a problem somewhere else, possibly with the ECU talking to the UCH.

I didn't have the stopping problem however I has the starting problem and it happened often! Sometimes it started most other times I just had to keep trying until the light went off to start the car up. When the light did stay solid the fuel pump didn't prime.

My problem was the relays and I'm going to replace them but I took each one out, cleaned it with contact cleaner and put some wd40 on the terminals. Since this it's started each time for nearly a week now where I was getting none starting daily.

Try this first, however after lots of searching about it the relays could not be the only problem, there is something about a 12v feed to the UCH that can 'fail' have a search around but try cleaning them first it might be the problem.

(the reason I believed mine was the relays first was that I could start it up sometimes like first thing but not others so it was intermittent rather than none starting at all)
