Help! Brakes Mashed

I started the car up earlier and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor! i had already started moving and with the pedal flat on the floor the car was hardly stopping. I turned the engine off to check the fluid levels, and tried to have a look at the calipers (but it was dark!). The fluid levels were fine, so i got back in the car again and the pedal wouldnt move! I had to move the car back on the drive so i started it up and there was a bad grinding sound. The pressure on the pedal was fine again tho. I took it for a quick test drive and the grinding almost went away. But am v. worried now. :(

Any ideas what could be wrong?? And help much appreciated, cheers Wado.

Im guessing that is your problem, someone will confirm but any problem with your brakes means unsafe to drive unless you onlyu have to get it to a close garage on back roads and you feel that you can do that using the gears and the hand brake?

check all your brakes for wear and fluid leaks but it sounds like a master cylinder fault.
