Help! Can't get Fuel Rail Guard off

  FormulaFord Ecoboost
Hi,

Following the Fubar guide on changing my oil (cheers btw!) and I can't get the fuel rail guard off. I have a 10mm long socket and can feel the screw thread in each of the two holes but can't actually feel a nut. Even after sticking the socket in there, I still can't feel anything to get any purchase on.

Have I got a 10mm socket that's simply too fat at the end (so it won't go far enough down)?

Anyway, I did the full oil change anyway and left the old filter one (hopefully not a bad thing!). I'll have to maybe take it to the garage and get them to remove it for me.

It's a real mix and match with those bolts, some have 10, 11, 12 and even 13mm bolts! You need a 1/2 inch long reach socket, or a 3/8 socket with an extension.

Mirror and have a look up there, seen a few with the nuts put on backward for some reason?? Usually 13mm on the 1*2, some are 10mm though.

as standard they're a 10mm hex, flange nut on an M8 thread. Standard nut size for M8 is a 13mm hex so occasionally they're replaced with those

A lot of the time theres a lot of rust and dirt in the holes so a bit of a clean out can help loads. Sometimes people hold the nuts in the socket with bits of tissue so they dont drop the nut, and that tissue gets left up the hole and turns to mush and becomes an obstruction for next time.

I changed my oil yesterday, it was the first time I've changed it personally. I found that one nut was a 10mm hex flange nut as mentioned and the other was a 13mm nyloc hex. Even with the fuel rail guard off the filter was a nightmare to get off.
