What do u do! i was just going to part with my hard earned cash to put a order down for the 182. But then i see this.....

get a cup ! 182 is just trying to compete with the 206 GTI and others its pathetic. Gained weight aswell apparently ! get a cup ! NO TO THE ASTRA

To be honest, I really REALLY like those Astras.. Never driven one tho, so dunno.. but to look at, they really are nice.

i already have a mk2 172 theres no point in buying a cup!

I had a look at the astra coupe things with the same engine i think. theyre pretty quick but very vauxhall ie bland inside an not the most fun to drive. Only my opinion of course an thats based on the coupe not the GSI turbo. But if youve got a 172 an fancy a change i wouldnt suggest spendin your money on a 182! Is there really gonna be that much difference??

Thought as much. I wasny aware that the 182 was just a 172 with twin exhaust into i did some research. Maybe a good car if u have never had one before but for me! I think the astra. Thanks boys and girls

Eh? Well whats the point in getting a 182 then? Me no understand.
Exactly !! Theres a post on here claiming that the 182 is slower than a 172 ! I dont see the point in that ! Focus RS ? CTR ? Leon Cupra R ?

Hmm if you like the Astra the try a test drive - personally I think they look very boring but im not up on the peformance and handling on these.

Hmmm... so the choice is:

an exciting exotic example of haute cuisine

or a potato

or to put it another way:

comfortable supportive seats and an exciting drive

or back-ache and such boredom you fall asleep on the M1.

Catch my drift?

If not then here it is on simpler terms:

BUY THE 182

Astra GSI is very fast and the Turbo is rapid but there is a log of torque steer (drove it at motordrive live) and it is not as nimble as a 182 with the cup suspension. Astra is replaced the beginning of 2004 whereas the new renault sport wont be out until the end of 2005!

Buy the 182!

I have access to a Cup/CTR/Cupra R if I had the choice gain id buy a Cupra R Leon everytime either the 210 or 225 (which when RR standard both make bewteen 225-235!) Remember the 210/225 figures are Audi figures for Haldex S3s and TTs.

Id say 182. Astras are reet rep mobiles and dont look owt spesh. Having said that its tubo power so your looking at serious tunability.

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!

i see them 172s amd 182s everwhere around nottingham, lincoln, doncaster, sc**thorpe, hull. they seem common as muck for a sports car, go for the GSI, unless u want somthing fun, my old man always get vauxhalls and still sticks with his calibra, says its better than astra coups.

I remember the old days of the 16v gte astra had many a good time in a few standard one in glasgow of the clock at 160 and in one modified to 220bhp throttlebodies/cams etc and that was amazing but never tried one of the newer ones have to admit the interior is not exactly vx strong point but my clios isnt either spend a couple of days test driving all the cars in this category and youll soon see which you like best

I heard that the astra is a lot more consistent and easy to drive than the 172. Sounds a bit boring to me.

a review came out with the astra beating the 172, as it "would have been something my grandma could drive easily". "172 is much more edgy and represents the hot hatch of the 80s".

Now I know what I take from that!!!!!!!! I bought the 172 as it makes you smile more and is a lot more involving. Why the feck do you want a relatively boring car?

If youre sinking in your hard earned, then Id steer clear of a brand new car unless I was going to love it and keep it for a long time.

The Astra is certainly not special enough to deserve my savings... and is a 182? Not so sure.

The way youve got to look at is like "if I lose £4k a year on this car, will it be worth it?". If the answer is yes, then get one. But if it isnt, then move on.

I had an astra for many years - nothing but trouble and I know other people who thought the same and have moved to Renault.

172 is a lot more fun to drive

I had Vectra for 2 months, IT SUCKS! I had all kinds of electric problems in it + gear box was awful.

Stick with Renault;)
