help, cracked metal plate...

hi, just bought a 172ff if you look from the front of the engine bay, just behind the battery is a metal plate kinda a u shape upside down about 8 inch's long secured both ends... mine is cracked and broken off its mounting on the r/h side... what is this, is it replaceable or can i just get my fabrication mate to drop a quick weld on it to rejoin it??

Assuming it is the ecu bracket, then it is normal for it to be broken.

If you weld it back up then weld a thicker bit of plate to it or it will just break again.

they always break, very common, use the search function and type in "ecu bracket"

if its the ecu am i safe to weld near it?! dont fancy making it go pop! might just rivit a new fabricated bracket to it... bit safer thanks guys!

Hum wouldn't go welding in the engine bay, take the bracket off, fix it up and put it back in.
