Help fitting an alternator

  Trophy No #264
Hi all,

apologies if this has been posted / answered elsewhere - i couldn't find what i was after.

A mechanic mate of mine has kindly offered to fit a new alternator to my 182 for me. However, being that he is more at home working on expensive german sports cars, he has no idea what the best way to do it is, so he asked me to draw on the collective knowledge of cliosport.net!

Does anyone have any advice and (preferably) pictures for me?

Someone else said that it will fit through the grill, but this seems impossible - it looks waaaaay to big for that. Also, how the hell does the frill come out?! (it looks permanently attached to the front bumper area)

HELP!!!!!

Cheers,
James

Downloading the repair workshop manual may help. Someone is hosting it on here. Removal of the grill is the easy bit. While its all off Id change the aux belt aswel.

Take the front bumper/grille off, its only 5 mins. Remove the slam panel and you'll have full access.

You will need to make sure you have a 3/8 square drive for the aux tensioner though, or you'll be putting that lot back on straight away.

Sorry for the ignorance - anyone got a guide as to how to take the bumper off (i am pre-empting the inevitable questions from my mate!

Also, anyone got an idea as to how long this should take to do from start to finish?

Take you about an hour.

Dont have time to write a guide, but you have 2 bolts on the corner of each bumper int he wheel arch, a row of bolts underneath holding the plastic skirt to the subframe and 2 plastic push pins holding the grille top to the slam panel.....the just pull the bumper off.

Grille has 4 bolts holding it....2 are easy to see ontop and the other 2 attach it to the front crossmember.....you donth have to remove these, just loosen and it'll slide off.
