Help fitting new xenon for 172 Mk2

  The Bus and MRT
I've finally got a replacement bulb and I'm struggling to get the light cluster off. The only bolt I can see holding it in place in the one at the centre at the top.

Am I missing some other bolts? I'm hoping I don't have to remove to many panels to get this thing out...

Cheers

Yup

You have to remove the front end

- grille
- bumper

then you will see 2 more bolts behind the bumper at the bottom of the headlamp.

This is the only way you will get the headlamp out, any other way and you will break the plastic fittings.

Jack the car up at the front
Place on axle stands for this type of work.

Arch liners removed
Will revel the bolts for the front bumper. (each side)

Under tray (plastic) has 2 bolts which clips to bumper.

Grill off at the top
then bumper will come forwards (may have to pull a bit and be carefull not to scratch ur wings at this point with the bumper)

(also best to have 2 people here as u run the risk of dropping it)

You will then see how the headlamp is secured to the front of the car with 3 bolts.

DO NOT turn headlamps on while u are playing about with the bulbs.
The charge packs do send out rather a lot of juice ;)

Ok cheers, I though I might have to remove the grill, but I also have to remove the whole of the bumper (won't that involve removing the fog lights aswell?)to just get the headlight out.... seems a tad excessive :(

The fog lamps are screwed to the bumper.

When u remove the bumper u will see there is a connector on the passanger side for both the foglamps. Just disconnect that and the bumper will be free.

(oh on 172/182 i forget you also have the headlamps washer tubes.

Yes its a fair bit of work just to get the dam headlamp out.

i think it is the main Xenon bulb he is changing.
If so its best to remove the unit to gain access.

If it is just the side light/ indicator/ High beam bulb then u should be able to do it in situ rather then create a mess!

Yeah it's the main Xenon bulb... is it possible to do it whilst the unit is still attached or is it a bit risky?

  cock mobile.
Really?

You can change the dipped beam lights fine on non xenon lights without having to remove the unit.

Sounds like a right pain.
