help for a n00b

Have spotted a nice 172 Cup on Pistonheads and am going to view this week. My main concern is the mileage, its a 2002 PH2 but has done 94k. Is this something I should be worried about? I'll check it's been correctly serviced and everything. I'm on a tight budget but I think I may be able to get it quite cheap.

Also are they reall as unreliable as people say? I've heard nothing but bits falling off and camblets snapping :rasp:

Just a bit of advice really, cheers!

well i have done 20k in mine since i got it and i've not had any major issues... just use the buyers guide on here would be worth the 10 quid membership tbh

Link to the clio? As long as they are serviced and looked after then they should give no trouble other than wear and tear really.... The one your looking at should have had its belts done around 60k-70k. But will be due a AUX belt soon. Every 36k. So check the service history and when the last belt change was done as its an expensive job. Both belts will cost you at least £200 parts £400-£500 labour...

Bits dont fall off and cambelts dont snap if you look after them.
Things rattle and knock though, and come to think of it the exhaust will fall off as it did on mine, although with 90k miles on it, it has more than likely happened already. If not a nice excuse to get a decent system put on. Im on 76k with my 52plate cup and shes running as well now if not better than she did the day I got her. If the price is right I'd go for it. You won't regret it :D

I think I can get it for 2750 which to me seems pretty cheap! As a buyer though, anything over 100k would put me off so I imagine the price will drop alot if I end up buying it! I'll go for a viewing and see if I can scrape a tenner for that buyers guide :)

Cheers guys!

No disrespect mate but if you have to scrape a tenner for a years club membership then is a 172 cup the right car for you? £260 TAX, Expensive cambelt changes, insurance, they're not too bad on petrol, services, tyres etc.

I do 100% recommend joining properly i have learnt loads of stuff of this forum.

Also aslong as its maintained properly it will be fine, Markcups 172 cup has got over 100,000 miles on it and its flying.
